Kajiri, I want to say how much I admire your jumping into a delicate and complicated project like this. It takes courage and a sense of adventure. I haven't done anything with watch servicing. But I've tried my hand at repairing vintage typewriters and fountain pens, and I well know that delicious combination of terror and well-being that comes when I sit down at the workbench to try something for the first time. (At least, that's true of me. You might feel differently.) Hats off to you!

I've been watching a lot of the same YouTube videos you probably have.  They are awesome, but they have all the right tools and they've had lots of practice.  You show the issues we are all going to run into when we start out.  I really want to give this hobby a shot.  I'm in the gathering tools stage.  Your videos are motivating me to take the leap.  Thank you!

Don't laugh but I made a purpose of repairing a broken miniature tape measure over and over to prepare for mainsprings, and noticed they degrade very evenly. Even for a spring with such uneven stressing as a tape measure. "Repairing" by shortening any older wound spring yielded the same result. It would eventually snap again somewhere else, usually quite soon. So I think if you're gentle and yet still break a spring it is not necessarily down to you. Likely the spring has just had it. Most people just don't rewind a broken spring over and over again to see what happens. 😂

As someone who is almost 70 years old I envy your ability to see so well. I have a microscope as well as a video scope in order to see the smallest of parts. I bought those on Amazon but the rest of my tools I got on EBay. I bought an L&R 1902 cleaning machine for about $200 on EBay and for me with an egg timer it works great. I may later on buy a more expensive one but for now it works. I use my ultrasonic cleaner for case, case back and bracelet.
Good video and it is exciting to see it running smoothly afterwards. Good luck on future projects.
