Thanks for this video. I lived in this city or 22 years. Left in 2017. All these hoods are very familiar to me. Yes, Jackson has always been in decline since the white folks moved out after desegregation, so the urban blight and decay does not surprise me. What's surprising to me is how empty the streets look right now. It's an eerie feeling to see roads like Ellis Ave - which were some of the busiest streets around JSU back then - looking eerily empty. South Jackson in entirety just looks like one bad apocalyptic movie. It's a bitter sweet feeling watching this video. So many good and bad memories of Jackson, yet seeing it now the city looks so sad and hopeless. Seeing some formerly vibrant shopping centers entirely abandoned is very depressing. You have to wonder, where did all those business owners go after probably investing all their life savings in some of these now abandoned commercial buildings and gas stations?
I worked for the City of Jackson for 35 years. A lot of the problems stem from poor leadership and abject poverty. In these neighborhoods people do not care because they have learned that nothing will change. It is easier to get a welfare check than a job. I retired early because I got tired of seeing the incompetence.
All the billboards were advertising for injury attorneys I can smell the death and decay through my laptop speakers This is what happens to a city when its residents have no civic pride Medgar Evers would be very disappointed
Wow! What does the residents do here for fun, it looks terribly neglected. WH do we keep seeing this in a lot of black or trailered neighborhoods? THEFT IN OFFICE is why. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! No more TALK and gum-bumpin', JUST DO IT! π‘π‘
