4:42 Paradis and Marley share a language but have different scripts. There are instances in real life of countries that share a language adopting different scripts to write it. Ymir must've learnt to read when she was in the cult. Not only is this plot point not a mistake, I personally believe it's one of Isayama's sharpest foreshadowing because in Reiner's attempt to conceal the fact he's from Marley his lie still betrays that he's a foreigner with knowledge about salt water fish. Another reason we know that this couldn't be a mistake is because in Zeke's introduction he remarks that "we speak the same language" before any Marleyan writing is seen
My headcanon is that either 1) King Fritz changed the writing system after fleeing to Paradis so that his subjects wouldn't be able to read any documents that managed to make it out of the mainland
2) Marley changed their writing system to create a national identity separate from the previous Eldian domination
5:50 it's easy to miss, but it is explained. Marley and Eldia speak the same language but have different writing systems. it happens in real life too, so this isn't a cop-out
Eyyyy. Also the underground turning into Yeagrists is a good integration, also sorta works since Historia's orphans come from the underground too, although I don't think Erehisu are publically aligned at that point in the story.
so glad you brought up the underground! Once Historia was made queen they should have all ben released, but its like they were just forgotten. honestly it makes Levi utterly despicable how he never does anything to go back and help them and the only time he mentions them is to call them dirty.
I feel like the language thing for ymir and reiner is that the spoken language is same but the writing is completely different. Kinda like in re zero. Subaru natsuki can speak to everyone fine but at the start he cant understand the writing because its different from japanese.
1:15 aight big bro I didn't expect ts in the slightest 😭
Anyway I agree on everything although I do think numbers 1 and 3 are simply due to Isayama still having to create the full picture and idea when he wrote the chapters and I also especially agree on number 6 as I think it's one of the main problems of the story as a whole which also heavily impacted the problems with the rumbling arc and ending. W as always
While i can get away from most of these my biggest problems are ymir's character in pre timeskip her going back with Reiner& bert to repay debt seemed very off' writing to me
Great video For the language section, I would say that Ymir must've learned reading and writing during her time in the cult, but I might be wrong. And I think the implication of the scene was that they speak the same language, but with different alphabets. (kind of like urdu vs hindi) But I will say that within the lore of AoT it doesn't make any sense for Marleyans to not have a distinct language, since they were supposedly a formerly oppressed culture who gained their autonomy back because of Karl Fritz. It would only make sense that they'd want to radically reform culture in the main continent to use their own language, but apparently not I guess they all speak the same language. For the part about Zeke forcing Reiner/Bert to use their titans at Utgard, I don't think he knew they were there specifically? From his POV he was just throwing rocks and titans at random scouts, unless im forgetting something. 10:30 The only people who were expelled from the walls after the wall breach were citizens of Wall Maria. I'm quite sure the underground isn't located in Wall Maria so they wouldn't have been the target of explusion, but rather the massive waves of Wall Maria immigrants who simply couldn't be supported. So it wouldn't make sense for underground citizens to be expelled as you were suggesting Otherwise I like your ideas involving the underground having more relevance. I also think they should've played a key role in the uprising arc during the government's overthrowal, because why wouldn't the oppressed citizens want to rise up? It would strengthen AoT's themes of fighting for freedom and such, but instead we got a mostly self-contained scouts vs government conflict, which is very lame. For the memory transfer thing I completely agree, it's js a plot device to randomly move things forward. One thing I rarely see people talk about is how Freckled Ymir would've known who Reiner and Bert are since she inherited from Marcel, but for some reason this just didnt happen and Ymir had no clue Overall good video but I feel that you could've brought up more on the royal government and how they're just comically evil and stupid, and bring up a bunch of plot holes in the story. (I can go in detail if u respond)
Pre time skip aot is the closest this series will ever get to a masterpiece. Especially season 2. They were not perfect but isiyama really knew what he was doing. Idk what happened to him post time skip
