The color pencils matching the pastels more or less perfectly is such a visually pleasing thing to see.

allein die kombination zwischen Neoart und Luminance ist der Wahnsinn. Da spart man eine Menge an den Lumiance stiften. Man könnte die Neoart als Grundierung nehmen mit den Luminance die Details zeichnen. Das ist genial. Allein wenn man z. B. einen schwarzen Hintergrund malt. Mit den Neoart geht es sehr schnell. Während man locker den halben Stift (Luminance) opfern müsste.

I love these and I use them for details with my neo 1s and 2s. Also with Neopastels and if you put oil pastel on top they smudge indeed 🎉 Sennelier ❤

Really top notch demo I’ve seen.  Don’t think these oil pastels are for me but I’m definitely interested in the luminous Penelope. Must find out if you have done a demonstration on those. Think they maybe more for me.  Still best demo I’ve seen to date will be interested to see the picture you do with the oil pastels 🏆 well done

1:08:06 on using heat. I wonder what would haopen if you use a hot water bottle under the paper, to keep the paper slightly warm while you paint. Thanks for this swatching and experimenting session. The colours look lovely.

I wonder if Holbein Meltz would do anything. I have the full set of 525 Holbeins and the Meltz creates the most beautiful, soft transitions and you can even get a gorgeous watercolor effect with it. You just have to experiment a little to figure out how much you need to lay down and how much medium to use to get the effect you want.

Meltz also works with Pablos, Luminance, Prismacolor, and Derwent Chromaflow, but interestingly, it does absolutely nothing with Derwent Coloursoft, Drawing, Lightfast, or Faber Castell Polychromos.

It's probably why people love it or hate it. Although it was custom formulated for Holbein pencils, it does work with some other product lines. If someone has the "wrong" kind of pencils, they'll say it's rubbish and don't bother with it, but you just need the right blending medium for the right medium. They are not all made the same, like oil paints tend to be. If it's an oil medium and you're painting in oils, it'll work. Not so much when you're dealing with colored pencils and the various types of pastels.

It's a weird blending medium with weird properties. It's liquid and a bit oily, but not overly so and it doesn't stain paper. It dries yet it has no sense of being a typical solvent, but more like a non-drying oil that actually dried. Strange, wonderful stuff. It might be worth the experiment.

Although it's an odd medium, it's a very cool one for the media/lines it works with. It seems to me it is more friendly with "less oil, more wax" based pencils (I know they're all a combination of both, but they lean toward one or the other). Since these are fairly dry and you said almost waxy, it might work amazingly well. A small bottle is cheap and you need very little for it to work.

Another out of the box possibility to try is Brush & Pencil Powdered Blender. It's another odd one. A powdered lubricant that will push around and blend totally dry colored pencils with this totally dry powder. Again, less is more. Too much and you make a muddy mess, but a little dip on the tip of your brush is magic.

I know these aren't pencils, but the binder(s) sound more similar to pencils than oil pastels. Even the relatively dry Neopastels seem softer and more oily than these.

I just tried a couple in a store today and vastly prefer them over the sennelier oil pastels (too soft for me). Btw if you want to achieve detail with your neocolor IIs just sharpen them using a wide bore sharpener. Works perfectly and you can keep the shavings to make a wash with ☺️

I know this video is a year old, but I wonder if you've used them over the last year and how. Have you done a piece exclusively with these? Do you prefer them as an addition to mixed media?
