In this video top instructor Dougie, an NZ trainer with over ten years of teaching behind him, gives his honest verdict on eight skiing myths you've probably had shouted at you from a chairlift. Some are true, some are outdated and some are quietly making your skiing worse.
Dougie starts with the classic "bend ze knees", showing why knee bend alone pushes your hips back and loads the tails of your skis, and what a lightning bolt stance with ankle and hip flex does instead. He then covers pole use, the myth that you can only learn to ski as a child, and the one he hears most often: that you need to lean back in powder.
From there Dougie tackles feet glued together versus a hip width stance, defends the snowplough as a genuinely useful tool on narrow trails and lift gates and explains why burning legs are usually a sign of an inefficient stance rather than a hard day's skiing. He finishes with ski boots, walking through how your buckles should actually be done up and when it's time to see a boot fitter.
Each myth gets demonstrated on snow and a straight verdict, so you know exactly what to keep and what to forget.
