The anticipation of Barry Sanders receiving the handoff hasn't been replicated.  He made the Lions must watch TV, which may be the greatest accomplishment in the history of mankind.

"If you tackled Barry Sanders, you were amazed you did. If you didn't tackle Barry, you were amazed by what he did!" I don't know who to attribute this quote to, but it is so accurate.

Most of the Barry highlight videos show his big breakaway plays.

I would argue that the majority of his greatest plays only went for like 10-15 yards. That’s because he would actually run 40 yards left and right, front and back, in order to turn what would have been a busted block backfield loss into a spectacular 15 yard gain. He would also subsequently make all 11 defenders miss him along the way.

Those are the plays that truly separated him from everyone else in my opinion.

Barry is a once in a lifetime player, we won't see anyone like him again

Barry Sanders has nothing more to prove to me. He's the best. Period.

Detroit Lions season ticket holder 1989 - 1999   Barrys entire career.   Tailgating at the silverdome, then spending 3 hours watching Barry.    Perfect Sundays  🏈

I won't say there will NEVER be another Barry Sanders but I will say as of now there is nobody close. I legit teared up watching this. Life long Lion's fan. Got to watch him in my late teens and 20's. Best ever!

Barry Sanders is the greatest ever! Nuff said.

Something you won’t see in Barry Sanders highlights is how often he would turn a negative play into getting back to the line of scrimmage or even a short gain.  Barry had some of the best 0-5 yard runs you could ever see.

Barry was breaking ankles way before the phrase came to be.

Long-suffering Lions' fan here.  Barry gave us 10 of the greatest years ever and he is one of the classiest players ever.  His work ethic and humility were sheer inspiration.

I am 68 years old and it is my opinion that Barry Sanders was the best running back ever to play The Game of football

In my opinion, Barry is not just the best running back ever, but probably the best single player I've ever seen.  I'm a 49ers fan, and still can't put rice or Montana above him.

Barry Sanders' efforts on the field deserve silent observation.

Been watching NFL since basically 85. I'm 51 now. If you asked me to pick Barry or any running back since he retired. the answer is Barry. I also believe that the league changed the day Mike Alstott retired. There obliviously have been some fantastic running backs since but the league is more geared to passing now and for the best, protecting it's players better. It's not as brutal as it used to be.

I'm 54, and I grew up watching him; Barry was amazing, no comparison today at all.

The way he changes direction is not “a style”, it was a gift.

Barry grew up and played High School football in my hometown, so I have followed his entire career. An amazing player and amazing and very humble man. He has a book about his life/career and why he retired early. He wasn't just burned out on playing but also by playing on a team that was totally mismanaged as far as winning a championship, which is what he really desired. He was too loyal to play for another team, and he had so many other interests, football was not his entire life. It would be hard to argue against him being the most talented back ever if one considers the team he played for, the time he played, the length of his career, and most importantly, what his peers thought and continue to think. People like Jim Brown, Walter Peyton, Emmit Smith, Marshal Faulk,  Bo Jackson etc. deserve to be in the discussion, but I've watched football since the 60's, and he was the only back that everyone lined up to watch every game whether they were Lions fans or not. He was like M. Jordan and , Tiger Woods, Patrick Mahomes, Ronnie Coleman, Caitlin Clark, Babe Ruth, Serena Williams, Mike Tyson, Michael Phelps, Shaq, and many, many others who transended their sport or position in a sport. In many of these cases you really had to be there to understand.Barry deserves bonus points for being a great teammate and a great human.

Barry Sanders greatest RB of all time. He was a symphony and  jazz virtuoso in motion at the same time. One of a kind that the NFL Misses to this day.

Barry left the game early at 10 years and still became a legend, I was a Vikings fan, but loved watching Barry run!
