Great video, Dale. I use outer sleeves, but donāt generally put in new inners. I like to keep my records in a yellowing, crusty, disintegrating inner. I do have some of those mofi type ones. 99% of my are in the jacket unless itās a sticky jacket which I struggle to get the record in and out of.
Thanks for the heads up on this Dale. Iāll check the ones I have. Glad to hear you could rectify the issue.
Great video Dale - I also have used all 4 of those inner sleeve options and like you have a few Mofiās but thankfully not that many as they are suoer expensive and also not that great for storing in the jackets - great detective work - Iām off to have a look thru the collection now - #worried ! ā¤
Hey Dale! Woahā¦another Mo-Fi controversy! Iāll stock up the popcorn! Great detective work on finding the issue, bit of a nightmare though, itās a good job you spotted it.
Youāre right though, people who store their records out of the sleeve are weird.
That was interesting, Dale. I replace sleeves which are pure paper or card. I use Spincare Audiophile inners, which have a similar construction to the MoFi ones, but are a lot cheaper - roughly half the price. I haven't noticed any residue or markings, but I'll keep an eye out. Thanks for the heads-up. Cheers
Well you've definitely put the cat amongst the pigeons Dale. We'll all have a lot of checking to do. I use a mixture of your type 1 sleeves (but in black to match my nature) and type 2 (similar to but not mofi). The first for the 2nd hand albums, and the latter for brand new albums that need resleeving. Never considered type 3, and type 4 I've never liked. But an additional piece of information we require is the exact time period between initially sleeving the record and the appearance of the residue - more research is required. I agree with you about the practice of storing the record outside of it's jacket...why, just why?!
Agree with James, Dale. You should change the title of this video to something more direct. I have some records in those Mo-Fi inners, but canāt remember which ones. But some years ago I switched to Hudson Hi-Fi inner sleeves. They are basically the same as the Mo-Fi - just cheaper. I donāt see that residue on any of my records with those sleeves. I wonder if itās a combination of the sleeve with maybe a cleaning solution that youāre using? Interesting, though.
When someone says 'I am 100% fine with no issues in my life...honest...' that's a "cry for help" if ever there was one! š. I was meaning to ask about the heating and the relative humidity of the man-shed as my top floor gets way too cold and the cupboard is the safest constant coolish temp. I noticed a build of condensation in the loft and under my downstairs, stairs. So I have been trying to balance the relative humidity by opening windows when I can (when its dry outside). Its amazing how much moisture there is in heated air. I would recommend just as a precaution to let the heat out (if its dry outside) when you are finished in there as that will transport moisture out. I got a load of old polyliners from one of the charity shops were selling (Ā£1 per wadge). They were all from old unwanted classic albums. MoFi again! another scandal. I don't like those semi circle but its a good solution to paper i guess. I agree with you on the jackets. its madness to keep them outside to preserve the jacket for long after we are gone!! I knew the polyliners were good š. I wonder if batches were stacked flat and the weight transfered chemical residue or something. Good work there Sherlock š
Interesting video Dale. If you retitled it 'These inner sleeves are messing with your records', it will probably get a 100,000 views and you'll be able to replace all the records this has happened to. I mainly use the paper ones with the poly inners but I do have a few of those Mofi ones, so I'll have to check what's going on with them. I probably have done the same as you and used the Mofi ones for the more fancy records. I do occasionally use those crescent ones too and in fact just showed one in my latest update.
Really interesting vid Dale. Some serious work undertaken there sir. Tbh whatever my records come in is what they stay in. Iāve realised recently too that Iām just not playing my records very often. 99% of my listening is via streaming nowadays. Drum me out of the vinyl communityšš

By Inner I mean inner sleeves for records of course...I am 100% fine with no issues in my life...honest...
Iāve been favouring the cheaper rounded ones you showed of late. Iāll be keeping a close eye on those ones.
Cheers for sharing, this is certainly very useful and may be a bit of a revelation for many!
