The Director’s Cut of Black Hawk Down: The Untold Story is an extended version of a documentary film on the heroic efforts of the soldiers from the 2nd Battalion 14th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division (2-14). After two special operations Black Hawk helicopters were shot down in Mogadishu on October 3, 1993, the soldiers from Task Force 2-14 demonstrated extraordinary courage, skill, and discipline as they fought their way into a “baited ambush” to rescue the 99 special operations troops. During the 18 hours of ferocious urban combat that night, 18 US soldiers were killed and 78 wounded.

They were exhausted, they were dehydrated, but they were still Rangers

My dad was there. His first real deployment. PFC Schumacher. He retired after 21 1/2 years as a Command Sergeant Major.

My Father was a Major in the Marine Corps in the operation. His service inspired me to join the Army as a line medic. He said I’m too tall for a boat, and to wild for the Marine Corps 😂. RIP Pop, I miss you every day.

I am amazed at the heroism of the men that were there that day and royally pissed that they were deployed without the APC's and Armor to get the job done. What is the point of spending so much time training our warfighters to the highest levels of proficiency if we are putting them out there without the appropriate equipment.

From what I hear, it hasn't gotten any better. Sure the technology has gotten better, MRAPS, etc, but even now we see our troops deployed in the middle east without the right equipment to defend themselves or their airbases.

Each place we had have no idea what we are and were getting ourselves into

The movie shows American bravery, but the real story includes Malaysian and Pakistani troops who helped save them. Hollywood shows the hero. History shows who really helped.

TFR were told on the morning of 3 Oct by U.N. Int that the raid would be fatal. The info came from a U.S. LtCol, Int and myself, an Aussie. We had more than 6 months months each in Mogadishu and knew the highest threat areas. But they ignored the advice and continued anyway.

Our government FAILED, cost Men their life's. But they take no responsibility.
As a veteran I'll say our leadership is fubar.

I worked with a guy named Charlie Lofton who claimed to have been wounded in the rescue mission. I don't remember which unit he said he was in.

I remember watching the news ( Aus) with my Dad ...showing the crash of the Blackhawks, my Dad was a very tuff guy ...and i remember him saying , can you imagine the weight of the responsibility to have to go in and rescue those Men ...that would be terrifying.

This documentary is a truly moving and authentic historical masterpiece! 🎖 Thank you for providing such a deep and untold perspective on Task Force 2-14 of the 10th Mountain Division. The firsthand accounts from the soldiers in Mogadishu vividly depict the sheer intensity of the battle [13:42]. 🚁 The spirit of 'never leaving a fallen comrade' and the immense courage shown when returning to the kill zone to rescue the Rangers is profoundly inspiring [23:42]. These rare archives and emotional interviews honor the silent sacrifices made. It's more than a film; it's a powerful lesson in loyalty and resilience. Keep up the amazing work! ❤👏

Is Les Aspen still alive? He must be real proud of himself?

@TreadTalk247 6 months ago

I have a good friend that flew in Mogadishu during the conflict, he said he could not have been more proud of the men he fought beside and couldn’t be happy to get the F out of that place!

I’m proud of you Lt. Dan! We appreciate your service, Sir.
