People telling me " you draw great." Me: "Imagine when I learn how to draw."

It's insane how everyone wanna learn how to draw cute anime girls, but noone want to start by learning how to draw basic lines and shapes

1:44 "you are learning how to build a house by learning how to decorate first".

This line basically sums it all up on why artists never improve, love the comparison lol

Bro quit shouting at me 😢

Came for the art guide, stayed for the editing and voiceover. You popped  off on this one king.

The thing is, people focuses too much on getting better that it becomes more of a chore esq routine.
What people forgets about art is the feeling of it, how fun and joyous it gets you.
Without fun in activity, there is no activity, just do and done, over and over again.

Quick hack to learn how to draw hands: If you need references, you always have a Hand model at your Hand: Your Hand 🖐

For the beginers you can start with 3 basic knowledge: line, form and value, those 3 things make everything easier, but they are not easier ...

"building a house by decorating first" just completely opened my eyes

My perfectionism always haunts me everytime i draw, and honestly, it's the VERY FIRST THING every artist MUST GET RID OF, you ain't learning quick with this thing in your head, and it's coming from a perfectionist like me, so don't.

> make your art better than 99% of artists!

proceeds to explain the exact same concept a bajillion other art mentors have said in a different way

This video is golden for not only showing how, but explaining why. And why is always a level higher.

"you're building a house by learning how to decorate first" this shit slaps! it's been a little over a month since i started my drawing journey, and i've been slacking on my boxes recently but i know i have to push through this if i want to improve and draw absolute bangers

P.D HOLY SHIT i literally took a fucking screenshot of the definitions of the basics on 9:24, this is pure solid gold!

this video does a good job of actually explaining what the saying "if you can't do then teach" actually means. its not saying that if your bad at something you would make a good teacher, rather its saying that if your bad at something and want to get better learn how to teach the subject to someone else. when your that competent about a subject then you are no longer bad at that subject.

I love the way you portrayal them not as rules, but as fundamental units like in physics.

I thought I was doing some serious art learning for 3 years or so.

Then I found this video 15 days ago ago of this maniac who draws 60 gestures a day and then several hours of more art after that. Never skipping those 60 gestures.

I tried the 60 gestures a day, I somehow managed to keep it up without skipping a day (my inner maniac woke up and refused to stop), only at day 15, I am now, feeling like I am learning things, and maybe even start to understand a few things a bit better.

Turns out, I am not being serious about art for 3 years, it is in fact 15 days (though all the knowledge I had accumulated earlier and which had previously bounced off my brain is now finally sticking at times).

Well... whaddayaknow

When I was younger (around 11 to 17), I thought I was the best at art because that’s what everyone told me. I grew up following more 'casual' artists, and it was easy to reach their level. That’s why, for a long time, I never tried to step out of my comfort zone or improve my drawings.
But there was always this thought in the back of my mind: 'If I'm really that good, then why can't I do what this artist does?' And after that, I could never see my drawings the same way again...

I’m turning 21 this year, and at best, I’d consider myself a humble level 4 or 5. The moments of complacency that used to last for weeks in my teens now barely last a few hours, because that question always comes back: 'Do I know how to do what this other artist does?'

In short, try to step out of your comfort zone. Ask yourself these questions. Compare yourself to artists you admire and ask yourself: 'Can I do the same?' The answer will probably be no, but with that, it’ll be easier to realize: What do I need to improve?

You can organize your learning process into four steps, which become a cycle: Question, search, solution and revision. That's how I'm currently doing it!

It makes sense now

Majority of them don't improve because they don't relate to the very drawings they create, they draw as a means of seeking validation rather than truly expressing themselves. It is easy to get lost in numbers, commissions, the feeling of validation, the success. Then the artist transitions into an entrepreneur forever losing themselves to the world
