Ferrero: The Dirty Secrets of a Chocolate Giant | FD Finance

Watch 'The Rise of Zara: How Amancio Ortega built an Fashion Empire' here: The Rise of Zara: How Amancio Ortega built...

Thanks to its flagship products, Nutella and Kinder, Ferrero is a prosperous brand that, over three generations, has built a chocolate empire that is as popular with consumers as it is secretive.

But the scandals keep piling up. In 2022, in the run-up to Easter, dozens of children across Europe fell ill, sometimes seriously, after eating salmonella-contaminated Kinder. Did Ferrero turn a blind eye to the failings of its factory to protect its business?

The company is also accused of buying low-cost hazelnuts from Turkey, which are sometimes harvested by underage children in precarious conditions.

"Key ingredient of Nutella is hazelnuts" of a whole 13% ? I would say sugar is the key ingredient of 58% The Hazelnuts are only there for marketing the product as "healthy"

I've never liked Nutella myself but giving it to kids for breakfast...these parents are idiots

I’m sure as a child ( I’m 56) Nutella tasted more Nutty, now it’s just chocolate colored goop, and I no longer look on it as I once did. The sugar content is ridiculous.

The level of bad parenting in this video is astonishing.

Wow, what an unhealthy family. Very different from mine. My mother knew how to shop for a family. It’s up to the mother, not a multi corporate business to decide what goes in the trolley.

Thank you for your investigative documentaries, exposing large corporations, and their attempts to cover up their criminal practices in order to maximize their profits, regardless of the cost to their suppliers, and their customers/consumers, even when children's lives are in danger.

They abandon their project in Australia but not before destroying all the trees!!

Ferrero Group has abandoned its 10-year, $70 million+ hazelnut research project near Narrandera, NSW, following the failure of 1 million trees to thrive in the Riverina climate. The 2,700-hectare site (Dellapool and Arrambee) was sold to goFARM, which plans to convert the infrastructure into a high-density olive grove.

The biggest crime here is getting little children addicted to sugar. Web search says this Nutella junk is 57% sugar.?

Nutella is not the same anymore. Its much sweeter and less chocolaty, I no longer purchase it for my family.

@JoeSmith-t5n 7 months ago

I guess I'm deep into the minority when I say Nutella is gross in large amounts. A teaspoon once a month is plenty.

Excellent reporting, thank you.

As a Italian I love to see people brawling to get Nutella😂😂😂too funny hahahahahaha wtf…. it looked like Black Friday in America but for Nutella

@SellieM6970 7 months ago

Honestly the products have too much sugar. It is basically candy with nutty flavors to trick you into thinking there is protein or some sort of healthy component. However, they are simply ALOT of oil and sugar. 😅

I stopped eating for a Roche for this very reason

Ferrero also owns several brands in North America such as Kellog's cereal, Keebler cookies and various candy brands such as Butterfinger, Baby Ruth, SweeTarts, Goobers, Raisinet etc.

I have never eaten "Ferrero", In Spain we have Nocilla, similar to Nutella and very tasty and high quality. When I was child I was crazy with it. As an adult I never eat it becasue is a "caloric bomb".
