I feel if they had given the player a sense of choice, they could have utilized the doctor’s arrogance more. Imagine if every time you needed to make a choice, his voice came through the speaker questioning if you’re making the right choice and placing doubt in the player. It would add the pressure/investment of choice and also remind the player he is always watching

At the very least they could’ve had the critters in the safe haven doing things. I don’t need them to talk to me or whatever, just look like you’re an actual being capable of making decisions instead of just standing there staring at nothing

It’d be cool if during the Yarnaby segment, Harley would sometimes call him over to you’re location, that way he stays a threat but completely invulnerable. You’d hear him giggle to himself as he calls him over to you, knowing he’s just being a menace

Those corpses get on my nerves to absolutely no end, if those toys we're starving they would've torn apart those corpses and gnawed the bones to nothing. This is supposed to be years afterwards and their still here, they should've been eaten, and don't forget the toys fight like animals so even if the toys weren't starving the bodies should've been torn apart and thrown everywhere. Hell, this would've been a perfect addition to the shrine made by Catnap because he's giving up food for his god, even more significance then sacrificing/offering a plain dead body.

The Doctor should have been like GLaDOS from the Portal games. Constantly talking throughout the player’s experience, insulting them any way he can, and making obstacles the maximum amount of difficulty.

The choices idea for the grab pack is really nice! The 1st time Doey approaches the player about making a better choice to NOT murder everyone, I WANTED to side with him. Poppy already kidnapped us, she was never really trustworthy to begin with. Doey made far more sense and why should the innocent children toys be punished? They make a clear distinction of the ones who've turned and lost their humanity vs those who haven't and are suffering.

What's interesting about your sections on giving the toys personality in safe haven, the voice actors and code sniffers confirmed that sidequests were planned and at least part way implemented before crunch forces them to abandon it.

Why didn't they make doey's switching between kids visible???? He's a colorful playdoh toy. Have the clay switch around his body when one of the kids is clearly fronting. Use it to show this kid is clearly creative because the colors are pretty. Or that kid is neat because the colors suddenly align themselves in clean lines.

As a FNAF fan,I think a lot of people misunderstand why FNAF worked. The story of any given game is simple (you took a night gig,animatronics try to kill you, survive) but the deeper lore (dead kids haunt robos) is what's hidden.

Most games conflate story and lore and treat them as the same thing. It's also important to note that the original FNAF games were much smaller and simpler so their stories were also much simpler

The fact 2 super important tapes about Poppy’s lore is in easy to miss tapes and not the actual story

@scribbles24 1 year ago

I think the reason people don't really talk about the story as much negativity is because of how enjoyable some of the characters are (Doey and the doctor especially) and I've noticed people tend to move more towards characters than actual quality of stories sometimes

I mean, a director who worked on the first three DID leave at four. He went in to be one of three people who made “The Deadseat.”

Another thing that always confused me about Poppy Playtime is how are they able to dig this deep, seriously?? By chapter 4 we’re thousands of feet underground and that’s impossible especially for a toy company regardless of the money they make

@renownedbandanawearer1345 1 year ago (edited)

Playtime Co. (a business with the ability to disappear thousands of orphans without repercussions) when faced with declining profits:

put the disappeared orphans to work as slave labour❌

invest untold millions in atrociously unethical experiments on the disappeared orphans so the few who survive and are useful can be put to work as slave labour✅

Jokes aside, excellent video! It’s very disappointing that we weren’t given more opportunities to consider Doey’s perspective that there were good toys worth protecting in the factory. With Safe Haven destroyed, the point was rendered moot and that little bit of nuance was lost.

I really wish kevin got more character to him, like you said, it would have been more interesting if his anger came from him trying to protect the toys with a "tough love" sort of mentality, but no, he is just angry ig.

I think the story of the lil girl who stopped the train was one of the sadest,and that's saying alot! Lol
Her screaming in pain for hours until she realized help wasnt coming was heart breaking. Her not eating anyone and hiding the key inside herself because she knows she will never be adopted was DEVISTATING. Her sacrifice made such a huge difference.

Also, people think her bigger body may have been the prototype kissy(all the tufts of pink hair and the mishpaen body).

All the stories are sad, but some are way worse than others....
RIP Riley, the 3 boys who made doughey, and dog day in particular.
"The button hurts me" and "you gotta get out of here" were chilling to the bone...

59:56 the whole lore of "company kills orphans and experiments on them to turn them into toys" feels like it's just for shock value too so I'm not really surprised

@sylvievadimsky7515 1 year ago

You know it’s bad when GARTEN OF BANBAN gives your player character more of a reason to be there than Poppy Playtime.

@NikkiBudders 8 months ago

The lack of a character identity for the player feels like a critical missing component in a story that's digging up the cruelty of the past and the moral decisions we as the player have been left with. I think even without choices the story could have given the execution of the creature more weight if it wasn't about us as players, but about the character we were playing as. To some degree, this character must have been complicit in the experimentation so I'm not shocked that they wouldn't feel too bad about killing another kid/creature, especially if Poppy's plan is to kill everyone anyway. I think that would have been an interesting avenue to explore, but I understand if it isn't what they're going for.

Oh woah finally a single living soul is acknowledging how playtime co ground through a small european country's worth of orphans and the US law enforcement t somehow just didnt notice the factory abruptly closing with no workers ever returning home from their last day.

It is genuinely so silly that i cant trust the writers to have particulalrly good ideas from this point on. They didnt think around these problems so whos to say the ending wont be full of holes?
