I think the thing that worries me the most about Poppy Playtime is the fact that, according to the old director of Poppy Playtime, The Prototype never had a FINALIZED design. Which means Mob was pretty much setting up the mystery about this character for almost 5 YEARS without a finished design. That's a really ballsy way to handle your MAIN ANTAGONIST, At least to me.

The current director saying they hide all the lore in VHS tapes and notes that not everyone will find “because it would slow down the gameplay” is such a massive cop out. CRITICAL STORY BEATS AND CHARACTER MOTIVATIONS SHOULD NOT BE OPTIONAL.

The Tea Party scene is always so funny to me, because it really highlights how superfluous we, the player, actually are to the story. This has always been about the beef between Poppy and Prototype. It's her he's after, not us. It's her he wants to convince to join him, not us. And it's her who gets most of his attention when he arrives, not us. The way he suddenly starts talking to us after accidentally breaking Poppy really reads like he just remembered we were in the room and that we're supposed to be the hero of the story, so he better give us some sort of villain speech. Except all the sauce went into his speech to Poppy, so all we get is "And you! ....You're kinda annyoing, I don't like you." After which he is immediately focusing on Poppy again. I've said this before, but why are we here??? What role do we play in this story???? The characters can give us all the cool names they want, call us Poppy's Angel, the Outsider, the Playtime Butcher, whatever new thing they'll come up with in chapter 6, but they couldn't give us an actual motivation to be here except for a vague desire to save our old colleagues (why? were we particularly attached to some of them? in what way?) that has been rendered moot by chapter 3 because all these people we supposedly came here for are super dead

If chapter 6 isn't the last one then I'm officially calling this series "high-budget Garten of Banban."

Catnap sacrificing himself when called by his god to become a part of the gestalt consciousness: pretty cool.

Catnap sacrificing himself when called by his god to become a slip cover for the prototypes back: pretty lame.

As i've said when talking to my friends "Doesnt it suck when you're SO into something that's adamant about being mid?"

So the Prototype was a giant crab clown all along. Have we forgotten the incident where the Prototype hid in a blind spot of his holding area camera? That implies the body is, if not small, at least extremely flexible. He's also been perfectly quiet until suddenly having Godzilla footsteps in Chapter 5.

The thing that ERKS me the most is the fact that the player deadass doesn’t have a goal it keeps getting shot down like First we want to find our coworkers oop there all ded ok, well let’s save the orphans OOP they are also ALL DEAD we literally have two things we can do now, 1 kill the prototype and leave or 2 just leave 😐

19:59 I want to point out that a good portion of Poppy's character, imo, has been inconsistent too. In Ch2, where most of the "don't trust Poppy" energy comes from, she starts all cheerful and childish and, "lets get you out of here!" Then whem we retrieve her from Mommy, she sounds all evil and venomous. Then she giggles when she shifts the train away from the exit. She seems to maintain a similar tone in Ch3, but like you said, she spends the rest of the game all apologetic or crying or demanding our obedience. It's hard to match that girl with the one who was growling, pleased that we killed Mommy Long Legs. It would have been so, so interesting if Poppy was just as bloodthirsty as the other toys the whole game.

The aspect of Poppy playtime that I'm most frustrated with is the thing Markiplier spent the most time on in his rant- the characters are just cannon fodder, they make an interesting character and they're promptly killed off. I also hate that they add new characters that never existed before in every new chapter, no evidence of them in the previous chapter, no cardboard cutouts or posters. They should have the design picked out a chapter in advance so you get (at least) posters hinting at the next roster of fodder. All the chapters feel so disconnected. We all thought cat-bee, candy cat and Bron would be more important than they actually ever were. Mob is suffering from severe lack of foresight within their own game, it's become increasingly obvious that they really are just making it up as they go along when most of us were sold on the idea that they knew exactly what they wanted to do.

Also wanted to add: as someone who LOVES SUN AND MOON, I do like this design, however I don't like it /for prototype/. They said he was an amalgam, I am disappointed by how small, simple and uninspired this design really is. Love it on it's own (well if your remove the crotch arms~) just not for prototype...

POV: You’re going down to chapter 936 to confront Bugaloo, a discontinued toy. Poppy apologizes for sharting in your grabpack, and Bugaloo blames you for stubbing his toe and wants to kill you

"You got any good writing?"
"Sorry, we only have aura and hype moments."

My personal conspiracy theory is that they dialed the prototype's design back to make it easier to turn into figurines and toys

Because a massive amalgamation would be significantly harder to do so with

I thought the corpse that prototype made part of him would still have conscious like what the critters did to dog day

You know what made this chapter AWFUL for me? The fact that it would have been the PERFECT final chapter. According to the end of chapter 4, you’re trapped in the deepest, darkest part of the facility with the first chapter’s antagonist who you “killed” and is basically the face of the franchise. And on top of that, the main antagonist finally gets revealed. All of the elements point to a climatic ending to the story, only for a different antagonist who you “killed” last chapter to return and for this chapter to end on a cliffhanger. Great job, Mob Entertainment.

I feel like the people responsible for the story don't know the difference between story and lore. The tapes are great for building up the lore, but that's not where an important revelation in the story should be. Right now it feels like Poppy Playtime has a strong lore but with a storyline that has just gotten weaker and weaker.

Apparently from the former Director of Poppy Playtime Isaac Christopherson said that Poppy Playtime is supposed to end at Chapter 5 and that the Outimals, Giblet and Chum didn't exist when he was planning the story, Lily had concept but he wasn't sure if he could fit her into the story and the Doctor is supposed to not come back. Its pretty clear that these new character exist to just be more marketable characters to be made as plushies and merch, the wrongside outimals is basically the Nightmare Critters 2.0, I think its the case of the CEO Zach Belanger being greedy and wanting to milk the franchise for more money. I just hope to god Chapter 6 is the last chapter because I don't want the franchise to be a cash grab slop.

When I first watched a playthrough of the game my sister had said to me "y'know the Prototype and Poppy are siblings right?" And I said NO?! Like I had absolutely no idea they were supposed to be siblings at all!

You know what I just noticed about Chapter 5 that makes it seem even more slapped together and sloppy with no follow up built into it?

In every chapter intro, there's always a commercial that introduced us to a toy that would play a BIG role or have impact where it counted for us as the player.

Chapter 1 was a commercial about factory tours and the introduction of Poppy as the first doll being able to communicate with a child. We kind of "toured" the factory as we explored and ends with us finding and letting Poppy out of her case.

Chapter 2 was a commercial about the Mommy Long Legs toy and how stretchy it was, and its revealed the entire chapter was entirely dedicated to facing Mommy as a terrifying villain introducing you to her harsh but truthful version of playtime to reflect how everything in the factory wasn't fun and games.

Chapter 3 was a commercial about the Smiling Critters with almost a banned/lost episode kind of vibe involving their friend Cat Nap, which foreshadowed our encounter with Cat Nap and could represent how we as the player have been busy "sleeping" these past couple years of not being at the factory, and once we've spent longer at this factory, we've been "waking" up to the horrors that happened.

Chapter 4 had a commercial that had several people predict Doey would be the bad guy, but it turned out Doey wasn't truly a "bad" guy, he was just "made" that way by this evil company.

Meanwhile, Chapter 5 had a commercial about new toys called the Outimals, only for these guys to only show up for a couple minutes as a nuisance in the beginning and don't really have a huge presence in this chapter, Lily Livebraids, Ms. Gracie, Prototype, and Huggy taking up the entirety of the spotlight. So why introduce a toy if they really weren't gonna be involved in this chapter somehow or play a bigger role in the theme? The only thing I got close to a theme to this chapter involving the Outimals was they were just there for Prototype to stroke his ego in front of us(yes that sounded wrong)

Why not instead have a commercial in the beginning about Lily Lovebraids as a promoted toy?

I’m honestly so tired about the fact we don’t know who our protagonist is. 5! 5 whole chapters and we still haven’t been given a concrete answer on who we are.
Even with Henry from Bendy and the ink machine admittedly isn’t that interesting during the first game but at the very least we learned what we needed to know about him and his motive’s immediately at the beginning of the game. He worked for Joey Drew Studios as an animator, retired from the factory, gets invited back, and learns about the horrible things Joey caused. That’s fine in my opinion

But here in Poppy Playtime our protagonist’s identity is apparently some big mystery that the series is waiting for fans to reveal but I feel like the truth has been hidden for too long.
