The fact we are calling "analog" what we deemed as "digital" 10-20 years ago is CRAZY

"A physical bag full of analogue things, like digital cameras..."

Let me stop you right there.

im so mad because you KNOW most of those influencers will end up throwing it all away

The ultimate analog is walking to the public library

Analog being a trend freaks me out bc it makes me come to terms with the fact that alot of people just... dont have hobbies?

3:03 "So, on TikTok..."
Yeah, we could've stop there.

The fact this became a trend, I feel was already signaling its demise.

The people that are buying into the trend aren’t the same people who already do these things. People that love to read or knit were already chucking it into their tote or purse. Good to know I was years ahead of this trend just by simply having a hobby and doing it in public. People just want an excuse to shop “guilt free”.

“Satchel of distractions” is an incredible band name

What I'm hearing is that, when people  -especially young people  - are trying to "find" themselves (which, that's a phase of life everyone goes through, has gone through, since forever) and our hyper online capitalist society tells people that you can "buy" your identity and sense of belonging. Except, you can't and that's why these trends come and go. They're tapping into a very real human need and offering a quick, but fake fix.

I’m tired of the trend of people choosing hobbies based on how others will view/respond to it.

Choose hobbies based on what you enjoy or what you think is good for your character. Shockingly, if someone calls you performative or something, it will have no bearing on you.

11:53 I learned this from dropping my phone in a lake by accident and living without a phone for a few months, and in those few months i really honed in on what exactly I used my phone for.

Pro tip: If you're posting on SOCIAL MEDIA, especially TikTok, about "going analog", you never were about that analog life to begin with.

the trick was to never get rid of those things in the first place and take them from mom and dad when they were "throwing them away" and never have to buy stuff when it comes back in trend.

people just want decent things and quality living, and rich people dont care.

These people are making "analog bags" as a performative tik tok trend. I carry my camera, ipod, and 3ds with me cause i hate streaming and dont want to be tracked. We are not the same

I found out about this trend after getting mocked for carrying my trader joes tote bag (it was a gift) with my crochet and a book in it while out with friends. I didn’t even know it was a trend. My whole life I’ve always carried these things around with me 90% of the time. In the past I’ve got teased for carrying it because it wasn’t cool and now I’m getting mocked for looking like I’m trying too hard. It’s just exhausting

Off-line bag is more precise. I guess is a way to fight back the "everything is a service and you own nothing"

This is (primarily) young people searching for an identity and in that search they end up copying the latest trend, instead of asking themselves what they ACTUALLY like. They are doing it with EDC, the analog bag, cassette tapes, Stanley bottles, adult coloring books etc. The dream of being a young and famous influencer then activates greed and they start promoting crap you don't need with affiliate links. Faking an identity and interest you don't have by engaging in the worst form of consumerism there is. A few months later, the cycle repeats itself with a new identity. In the meantime you haven't used a single thing in your "analog bag", but now you have more crap to throw in the back of your closet that you also organized by buying 50 storage containers that you saw from another TikTok'er.
You're a hollow empty person who's afraid to ask yourself what you want and what you like. You're trying to be unique and different from everybody else, but your fear of being alone with your own thoughts for 5 seconds, results in you being like every other young (also a lot of older) person.
Pull the airpods out of your ears, put your phone away, stop listening to random influencers who are as lost as you are. Go for a walk without listening to a podcast, audiobook or music - or go stare at a wall, lay down on the grass and look to the sky and just be present with yourself and whatever thought pops into your head. As you do it more you start realizing that it's not scary and ideas start forming in your head. You start asking yourself questions, you start thinking of things that you're curious about. Then go explore - try it all out (but without buying a bunch of shit for every idea you have - don't turn it into consumerism). Through that exploration you will try things that was fun in your thoughts, but boring in real life. That's not a bad thing. That's a new data-point for you to use to guide you towards your true dreams, goals and passion. And it doesn't matter whether it's unique or something 3 billion people do. The only thing that matters is that it's something that brings you joy, happiness and/or a sense of meaning. Congratulations, you've now found yourself in a way that no amount of money, shopping or selfhelp books will ever be able to do. Now you can spend your money and time on stuff that really matters to you.

just like when shopping at a thrift store or goodwill was an insult like 10 years ago, now it's the trend

Is there a subscription box app for analogue lifestyle yet?
