One thing i love about Bas' commentaries on his fights is that he doesnt ever downplay his opponents, he calls fights like an outsider even with the inside knowledge of the bout

Bas is such a funny guy for how much of a monster he was in the ring.

Bas is a true pioneer of MMA ! Also, his "Bas Rutten's big book of combat" was a gamechanger !
Also, the old Pancrase rules makes for really interesting and quick paced fights ! There is a lot of 30 min early Pancrase fights that are worth a rewatch... in contrast, if a fight in early UFC is a long one, it means a really boring one.

Taking head hits from Bas and smile is another level of badassery even when you lose in the end.

Bas has an incredible combination of power, speed, aggression, endurance and brains. Truly an MMA pinoeer and by all accounts, great human being.

In South Korean he is refered as the "bald eagle" dubbed in Korean for his instruction skits 😂 whenever someone stabbing situation is brought up, I always think back to his videos

Not only is Bas a legend in the sport, he is also an amazing representative, performer, commentator, and just all-round wholesome person. I don't think there are many who shared the scene with him who have much ill to speak of him.

Bas is a legend. What you can clearly see in these fights though is the risk of having your balance forward when striking. Bas tended to prioritize power over defence when striking and regularly throws his body mass behind the punch for extra power. But that leaves you unable to use footwork to move out of the way of incoming attacks and you see several times that if one of these power shots fails, the opponent quite easily slips behind his back or goes low for the takedown.

Although Bas will always be an absolute animal, this video also reminded me how immensely talented the Shamrocks were too.

That evil smile while flexing his muscles…. Magnificent! He truly was a menace.

Bas’s first loss against funaki was a weird one, not taking anything away from funaki the legend but bas accidentally hit him with a fist instead of the palm.. bas then immediately apologised as funaki was still fighting and caught him in a heel hook. It’s great how bas talks about this loss as some sort of turning point for his wresting and composure towards fighting. Loving this vid 👌

Those scrambles on the ground are so much better than what they do nowaday in the UFC, just trying to get on top on someone and going for control time
