Wont stop me from being a VTuber, imma be the Best in the World

I just stay in my lane and watch who I want or I just lurk

The ways you grow as a vtuber sound almost no different than the ways you grow as an artist on social media. Interacting and making friends, branching out to other platforms, improving what you bring to the table, etc.

Really glad it’s you making this video because I can see how easily a topic like this devolves into misogyny. It’s hard finding male commentary Youtubers who don’t fall into misogyny/racism/etc so I always enjoy watching your videos knowing you take care with how you talk about things if that makes sense

As a woman in the vtubing scene, I was immediately targeted by male vtubers that were either sex pests or after my community for numbers (which is weird af). I knew going in that not every male vtuber is like that cuz I've been a long time fan of Kenji and I've learned specifically from Static's breakdowns of things before I invested in my model. But it did indeed sour my experience and put me on edge. From what I've seen when talking with others, that stigma is very real and it definitely makes us cautiously support/get to know over time. Do I want to make friends with male vtubers? Absolutely. But I just hope ppl are understanding that we wanna take our time and make sure someone's safe first before just diving headfirst. And focusing on yourself, what content you want to make and feel comfy with, will automatically show you as being safe cuz you'll be too busy being self fulfilled that you won't have time to be starting stuff (hopefully)

Me looking at the furry community streamers: Predominantly male and overwhelmingly gay

Yeah we have things chill out here.

came from kenjis reaction video, your comentary is cool :D

i feel like being a male vtuber is like being a zoo animal, a lot of people say they want one and willing to take care of one but only a small % of them mean it, i do also think at the end of the day you are a content creator, if you not entertaining you got to make yourself entertaining, it's why i been working on different styles of videos lately.

Not capitalizing on trends, even if they're just memes, is Cover's biggest flaw. They clearly don't realize that other vtubers and content creators think highly of them BECAUSE THE BOYS GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO SPREAD POSITIVITY DURING LARGE-SCALE EVENTS like Vsaikyo and VCR GTA/Rust/ARK/Minecraft. If Holostars didn't exist, Hololive would just be an island.

I think the biggest problem for male vtubers (or vtubers in general) is that they don't visualize success in the little victories they have daily as a small content creator. Got 10 subs today? Great, that's 10 more than you had yesterday 👍It's all about mindset. However, America has faciliated "hustle culture" to dictate, "If I'm not living off this vtuber hobby or have millions of subs I'm not doing it right." And thus, you have multiple people (both male and female vtubers) who put others down because of their own self-imposed insecurities or nuanced viewpoints of success.

In my opinion, I don't think this generation of vtubers are open-minded enough to understand this flaw and that's why even the biggest vtubers nowadays eventually get into controversies.

Dude. I have said this so many times with Twitch but I would not have gotten where I am if not for friends and MAKING STUFF ON YOUTUBE. Youtube is so important for growth!!!

Do I think it's harder for male vtubers specifically? Yes.
Does that mean you shouldn't try, or that you should just give up rather than get better? Or that it has anything negative to do with women? No.

It's a very complex ecosystem. IMO, vtubers in general are considered really weird by the majority of the population, there is a stigma for all vtubers. Presently, I believe that of the people who are past that stigma and love vtubers, the demographics are not perfectly split in terms of preferences. And that's before you add the stigmas you outlined.

With that being said, I think the best way to deal with this is structurally, by tring to bring more people into the vtubing audience subculture. There are plenty of people that enjoy male content creators that just haven't ever checked out vtubers before. Those are the hearts we need to win (IMO).

And you're (unfortunately) 100% right that the best ways to grow are all on other platforms.

I'm one of those women who actually is ugly irl so when people say that I could find an "exploit" by creating content with a hot vtuber model, it hurts my feelings 😭 That said I usually see the opposite happen-- a female face-cam content creator (on twitch especially) will become a vtuber because they're so hot that they get harrassed! (though you can definitely be harassed for being ugly, lgbtqia, non-white, or neurodivergent too) So it's no wonder that Vtubing became a female dominated space, and I am 100% okay with that.

As for guy Vtubers, I kind of wish we had more that would lean into the fanservice aspect of it at least a little bit. That isn't to say that guys who are uncomfortable doing fanservice should *have to do it*, but there are some who don't even want to look into what makes girls go into fangirl mode. It's like they wanna avoid pandering like the plague instead of letting it be a small part of the diversification of their content.

Anyway awesome video, Static!

Personally when I see the “male vtubers have it harder” I can only think of it as a challenge rather than discouragement.

The nuance you bring to this conversation is genuinely so refreshing. Nuance on the internet is such a fucking rarity anymore, and the topic of male vtubers NEEDS this level on nuance and understanding. W video as usual Static :3

I've ended up accidentally networking with artists and other types of content creators that aren't Vtubers. I know some Vtubing people and I have like one Vtubing bud but I just don't tend to get along with people in the space and they tend to have a lot of issues, which I just can't handle.
This was after my scorched Earth burnout from just trying to have a collab group lol.
Crazy how things happen.

I honestly think that content creation period is hard, we just see more women rising to the top because of the sheer amount of women trying the hobby (and maybe interested in art, aesthetics, animation etc) vs the more slim pickings of men debuting. The analytics are probably about the same, we just see more women because there’s such an insane gender gap in people joining the hobby, and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy where men see popular women vtubers and assume they wouldn’t be welcome, women see other women vtubers and feel represented in the gaming space and get inspired to join, rinse and repeat

i love watchign these videos every few months jsut binge the shit out of them keep up the good work love your stuff

PAPAMUTT MENTIONED! im so happy you went over all this man. I hate seeing this stigma since i watched my buddy Papamutt go from 100 viewers to like.. 1k in REAL time. Everyone works hard for their craft and shouldnt be put down because of gender.

As a girl, I like male vtubers. I like vtubers who be themselves.
Quite a few of them just go for the whole "sex sells" type of direction with their content. For some it is for them but my favorite vtubers are ones with fun content that don't just do the gfe/ bfe constantly
I think your friend is half right. Not that they are sex pests I think some just overly sexualize their persona to get viewers
