Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is a game about that Vietnam War that also seems to forget that it's about the Vietnam War. I will cover the issues with this game and potential solutions, as I do hope to see this game succeed.

NOTE: In my suggestions section I talked about a 10 minute prep phase. This is just me spitballing ideas and doesn’t have to be literally 10 minutes and word for word. I apologize for the confusion I should have made it clear that it was just a rough outline of potential solutions.

"They Made a Vietnam Game Without Vietnam"
They made a Cold War game then?

Hell let Loose: Korea would've been dope. Would've paired nicely with the recently released Il-2: Korea.

Imagine making a Vietnam war game without the Vietcong, the SKS or the M14 included.

HLL Vietnam was probably designed as a WW2 pacific theatre game at first. Higher ups wanted a more “modern” setting, so here we are with Vietnam. Would’ve much rather preferred a refined WW2 game.

I think this game is a reflection of a genuine problem with a lot of franchises:

Companies are too afraid to deviate from the cookie cutter standard .

Cus a lot of the ideas mentioned in the far latter portion of this video sound awesome and are all ideas that any normal person's brain could've drifted to let alone an actual game designer, but companies are too scared to try anything new so those ideas get completely blocked out in favor of "what works".

Rising Storm 2: Vietnam forever!!!

Wait he cooked with an Iran - Iraq war setting for a game like this... let him cook! That would be a sick game having too equally matched and brutal armies going at it.

Best Vietnam gaming experience I've ever had (outside of RS2 of course) was my time playing operations in the Arma 3 SOG Prairie fire DLC with a unit I used to be a part of

They’re playing it too safe, not taking any risks..

So Rising Storm 2 Vietnam is still unbeatable

Unrelated but we need a rising storm 2: vietnam remaster and console port. For all the jank the game had, man it was soo fun.

I completely agree with this take. I said the same thing when I was playing the HLL Vietnam Beta. It just doesn't feel like a Vietnam game to me. I feel like the Vietnam 67 mod on Arma Reforger feels more like Vietnam to me.

The Vietnam war CAN feature conventional it’s just that you have to take out the Americans out of the equation. And instead of the 60s, it’s the 70s and it’s between the PAVN and ARVN exclusively. It’s a part of the conflict that doesn’t get explored a lot. It’s also frustrating that they chose the Hollywood version of Vietnam too, I would’ve personally really loved a Hell Let Loose game taking place in a fictional post colonial African war
