One of the most iconic moments in sports history

30 years ago today!

I think it's impressive to play all 162 games of a single season.  To do it for the equivelent of 16 plus seasons??  No one is touching this record.
1:24:04 - Home Run!

I was there.  I was 16 then.  It was amazing.

I remember watching this game on HTS, I was 13

I remember watching this as a 10 year old. Just completely in awe. My all time favorite player.

Can’t believe it’s been 30 years, I was just 3 years old when this happened and now I’m 33 years old.

Literally my favorite moment in baseball history. Had this on VHS, whole game, lost it to water damage. Can't say how happy I am to see it again here! Thanks Balimore!

The moment with Cal and his Dad make eye contact what a special moment

Imagine being a young player in his 1st season with the Angels when call came around to the visiting dugout to shake there hands!  For a lot of those guys they grew up watching Cal.  Then to get a chance to play against him in this game.  Amazing

Other than Mel Proctor repeatedly telling us how many minutes the ovation was going on, this was one of the most magical moments in sports history.

Forget the Home Run Race, THE STREAK and this game in particular saved baseball, and gave people a reconnection to the game. The reasoning is because many people throughout the country could relate to Cal Ripken. Whenever there are times where I feel like I can't do certain things, I just put on the footage of some of Cal's legendary moments. This is the one everyone thinks of. No matter what some people think, this is the most unbreakable record in any sport, in any era.

Unbreakable record

Very few athletes that everyone seems to love, doesn’t matter what team you support.

Cal is easily one of them.

Rafy palmerio had a sweet swing man

My favorite numerological quirks of the 2130 and 2131 games:
- Cal's home run the night before (when he tied Gehrig's record) plated the 8th run of the night, matching his jersey number
- His home run in the 2131 game changed the score from 2-1 to 3-1
- The duration of the ovation quoted by Mel Proctor (22:15) matches the number of consecutive games played by the WORLD record holder, Sachio Kinugasa, which Cal broke the next Spring during a series in Kansas City.

I grew up a O's fan, and went to games from 81-96.
I was pretty heartbroken that i didnt get to be at the yard that day. Finally watched the entire ballgame today 30 years later.
I definitely cried a decent amount of tears. There was only one Cal. And what he meant to Baltimore was nothing short of everything. I can't believe i lived my first 15 years parallel to the march towards this day.
I was really blessed and I'll forever adore baseball because of Cal Ripken Jr.
Orange and Black forever.

How has there not been a 30 for 30 on this?

I can't imagine the feeling in the park that night. I can't imagine being there to witness a record being broken that will never be broken again... man I wished I lived in the 90s

Pretty awesome this is on Youtube
