wtf did i see at 10min who today would even attempt that pot

Brilliant - everyone remembers Alex of course, this is a nice reminder of how great a player Terry was too.

This period was the absolute heyday of snooker. It will never be bettered. 1970-1995. That 25 year period was its absolute peak.

Alex Higgins is the most magnetic player I have ever seen

Up til the end of 1983 and the final bust up with his wife Lynn, Alex was as good as anyone there's ever been.

RIP Terry Griffiths.

two great sports men

I remember watching this on my grandad's black and white telly with a coathanger aerial and awful reception. There are a few classic matches I've always hoped to see appear online and this was one of them, but I never thought I'd ever get to see it. Now I have and I can't thank you enough for doing this Stephen. Top man!

Alex did come back and win the UK title a year later in 1983. That was the epic final when he came back to pip Davis in the final frame.

Higgins will always be revered because he was exciting and gave the public the style of snooker they wanted. Griffiths had a dull profile yet he beat Higgins here and all 4 times they met in the World Championships.

Can’t believe he missed that back ☹️

Rest in peace terry

I remember this as a kid, was glued to the black & white TV we had for two day's, Higgins was my hero as a boy, thank you so much, never seen it again til now, you have brought back some wonderful memories.

Wonderful grace from Higgins in defeat and both men played top class snooker consistently.

If only Alex could have composed himself more, especially after playing an amazing shot, very often he'd follow it up with a basic miss, he'd be buzzing so much from the miraculous shot he'd just played, his head would be all over the place then he'd miss. I felt that he felt that his genius was not respected or appreciated by his rivals, it is undeniable that he had much more natural talent, a shot maker like no other, but he'd play too many loose shots. He let this one get away, apparently he started downing the vodka at 15-13 up, then Griffiths began his comeback and Higgins lost the plot. That black in the final frame was so rushed and hit too hard, had he just got down and made sure of that pot, then played safe on the yellow, but he always had to go for the impossible or very difficult positional shot. But he was still the greatest player ever to watch when if low, his style was off the chain, I just wish he'd have reigned it in a bit in these big matches, he undoubtedly would have won so many more big trophies had he steadied himself and concentrated on match snooker, not so many risks and wild shots, but he just wanted to play the way he loved to, the way he saw it in his head, with flair, he literally threw away so many matches. Yes there were many other great players of course, Griffiths included, but Alex had he played a steadier more calculated game would have got the better most times.

Does anyone else think Higgins looks younger here than he did when winning the world championship 7 months earlier?

Who else came here for Cannon? Damn snooker.

Great to have this classic online at last.

Watched this as a kid. First time seeing it since and on youtube. Thank you🖒

I really enjoyed watching this terrific final.  Thanks so much for posting.

Griffiths had an amazing cue action, it stood up to pressure incredibly well, and he never cued better than he did here against Higgins, who was always suspect under extreme pressure, which is why he lost so many deciders
