I wish you the best! I came here in 2006 under EPIK and next week will be my 20th anniversary. In 2016 I was kicked out of EPIK because of my age but luckily I live in an area that has a local program for foreign teachers to teach in the public school system. Sadly, in the beginning of March of this year I had to leave because of age again. I was forrtunate to find a teaching position at an academy in the same town. I get to teach and see my students and I am really lucky to have a wonderful employer.

I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to your new chapters in your life. Thank you for sharing them with us.  I remember some of my students have studied at the school you are going to attend.

Been teaching in Korea off and on for about fifteen years and finally got my first Korean pension payment this week.😁

I've been teaching in Korea since 2004. Mostly in a university though. Quit my job here and opened my own school here 4 years and we are on our 3rd expansion. Went to graduate school here and have also opened a few businesses whilst traveling the world. Life is what you make it.

I feel ya. I did teaching 4 years in Korea and going on 4 years in Japan now and its so much a drag. So after this fiscal year in Japan, I decided to quit and I will never do ESL again. And it wasn't entirely because the job, but like you mention it's monotonous and I don't grow in a significant way. Not in my role, not in my skill and definitely not in my salary. I wish you well. Korea was awesome when I there and in fact plan to visit next spring.

I stayed in Korea for 13.5 years. Loved it there. Lived all over the country. From small villages right up to Seoul. Moved there originally in 2005. Korea was so different back then.

You got lucky in Incheon. They put me in the Hwaseong countryside and I declined - because I was told I would be put in Incheon area previously. When I refused, Epik people went from being kind to getting upset with me. They told me to leave the training area without anywhere for me to go. I had no way to get a taxi either. They offered no help. Luckily another girl there was a returning teacher reapplying for a new area in Seoul. She called me a taxi and I managed to find someone to take me in for a few weeks. Epik made me sign a form saying I could never work for them. I was so sad. If the Epik interview person had not told me I would most likely get Incheon, I would not have continued and went to training. I ended up working at a hagwon. I loved my year in Korea and would have stayed except I got cancer and had to return home. I know now that everything happens for a reason because if I had been in Hwaseong, I know I would have never gone to the hospital alone and caught the cancer in time. My cancer is very aggressive and I’m convinced I would have died. So, even though I was sad to leave, I know that it saved my life.

I teach at a university here. The pay is more than hagwons, and I like teaching the freshmen. I just don't like teaching older students as part of my job. Most of the older generation is fine, but some have no idea of respect, boundaries, talk about appearance. It's not their business. They should just focus on learning English.

12 Years working as English Teacher in Korea (Anseong/Pyeongtaek) in Public school Elementary with EPIK/GEPIK or found job on my own with KORVIA or walk-in application.
Born in Canada to Korean immigrant parents....both good and not so good issues about it.  I would say that I am not your regular teacher because I actually love children (not teaching but just playing with them, being good around them and they loved me too) but too much politics started getting in the way from Principals and VPs with egos that just want to control everything about your life.  Their mentality is like this:  "Go water the plants", "But it's raining outside!", "Use an umbrella.".   That pretty much sums up the frustrating part of Korean principals/vp.   As you said, I knew some of my kids for their entire elementary school lives, I live in the same town as them and some of them even my neighbors, so they were a big part of my life as I was theirs....but even though I gave my love to the school and to the kids, they treat you like "i don't care attitude"....I don't switch schools either...I've only been at 3 schools in the 12 years and that's rare for english teachers who always wanna leave the rural areas and go to big fun cities like seoul, suwon, etc.  I was happy in a small town where nobody wanted to stay. I stayed, but they took me for granted and my health is going to shit so I had to quit.   The kids are #1 and that's why I always did it, but the school with egotistical principals/vice principals think they are the most important thing in schools cuz of their authoritiy and position.   They got it all wrong.  We are not here to serve the Principal.  We are here to serve the students/families/community of Korea to learn English and so that the kids can interact and learn English/Western cultures and broaden their experiences etc.     I am what you'd call, "a students' teacher".   Always famous and most liked teacher amongst my students (due to the care, attention, time, effort, heart, love I put into all my classes, lessons, actitvities/games, even spending my own money for the kids) but leadership controlling too much and making my life miserable is the problem, because they don't care what is the truth, they only care about what is correct.    

I'm still living in Korea and work on other things to make income and I'd still love to go back and work at a school again but the longer I've been here, the more I started to experience this problem of egotistical principals and vp who are not regulated, audited, evaluated etc.....someone needs to discipline these principals/vp.

I've been in Japan for over 13 years, taught English for 5 years. It's honestly pretty soul crushing, and the pay is ass. I work in a different field now for an international company and couldn't be happier.

I taught in korea for two years, some of my best but some of my most lonely times. I learned a lot about Korea and the people and only scratched the surface, but it made me realize what was important to me in life. Moved back to San Francisco to be with family and friends and had a high paying tech job. Im unemployed now but all was a great adventure for me. I still eat like Im korean tho lol

The skills i learned from my students carried me through my 8 years in tech. I was able to be more patient and assist employees way better due to my experience as a teacher. Teaching is one of the hardest jobs in the world, props to all teachers in the world.
