People really lost their shit after 9/11, the surveillance state feels like inevitability because people agree with it. Right now they're playing the "protect children on the internet" card and the masses are eating that up right now. No one wants to be responsible for themselves.

That point about inevitability feels like a very common philosophy for a lot of big tech these days it feels like.

"National Security is the chief cause of national insecurity." - Hagbard Celine.

I want flock outside of every politicians home

"We (the elite) increasingly becoming incomprehensibly wealthier through the monetization of your private life, is just inevitable folks. We don't make the rules".

Except, they do.

Wake up, Samurai.

If you're into looking at the stars you don't like street lamps.

Random fact: Long tree pruning shears happen to reach the average height of a flock camera, without the need for a step stool or ladder.

20:47 “Flock has received a lot of flack” was right there

Fear Factory wrote a pretty good song about this almost 30 years ago. It's called "Securitron." "Your privacy denied, organized, and confined/No place to hide/No place to hide."

The underlying presumption of guilt and using protestors as a use case if absolutely enraging.

This is going to be beyond Orwell’s wildest dreams.

French viewer here.
The city I live in is filled with surveillance cameras.
A couple month ago, a young man was killed near one of my city's most frequented areas.
About a week later, the mayor stepped up and praised the "efficacy" of the cameras (he was the one who had ordered their installation) at preventing crime, by taking this very example.
The victim, unsurprisingly, is still dead.
It's a good thing to remember: not only cameras invade our privacy, but they don't actually prevent crime. They're harmful in every way.

We are running head first in to the Psycho-Pass system

Criminals don't care about cameras, they just put something on their face and they go. Crime activity usually takes seconds, minutes tops. Not a chance for any surveillance operator to react and send patrol in time. If you give up your freedom for safety, you soon lose both.

"When people begin to protect themselves as individuals and not as a community, the battle against crime is effectively lost."
Ain't that the truth

Flock won’t also stop crime it’ll record it where as a neighbour may intervene during , neighbour won’t intervene if we all feel like we can opt to it a higher authority

A horse is a perfectly contained system with no obvious exploits.

Ever wondered why Flock cameras are only possible in US? In 1995 they closed Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) — OTA was essentially Congress’s in‑house “future tech think tank,” giving legislators scientific grounding before making policy decisions. Used to evaluate emerging technologies, scientific risks, and long‑term policy impacts. Part of congress didn't like making decision based on facts. They preferred voting on feelings... So led by Speaker Newt Gingrich, under pretense of savings, it was closed. Just in time when other countries recognized potential danger of new technologies. Currently biggest such office is in Germany. That is why Flock cameras are not possible in Germany. Example where big government is in service of their citizens.

2:28 okay, I wouldn't say I "hate" street lamps. But there are plenty of street lamps, but especially exterior housing lights (which are useless), which pollute the night sky. There are smart and stupidly simple ways to direct light downward to where its needed, and not pollute the night sky. Cities with bright billboards (like times square) are some of the worst offenders. Path lights in parks, don't need to be on 100% of the time, sensors to turn on lights as necessary have been show to be effective as well. If someone is following you, they too would trigger lights on, so you can see people in the distance still too. I don't hate street lights, but there are a LOT of them that need improved. Simple "barn doors" (sheets of metal that shape the light beam and prevent it from going up) need installed all over.

It is a good thing that people don't understand how even novelty lasers, like those sold at cheap toy shops, could overwhelm the sensors of cameras, as that would be a bad thing to do to cameras and nobody should do that!
