Arthur Freeman became infamous for the tragic murder of his four-year-old daughter, Darcey Freeman, on January 29, 2009. Freeman, during the height of a bitter custody battle with his ex-wife, Peta Barnes, drove his children to Melbourne's West Gate Bridge. There, in a shocking act of revenge, he stopped his car, took Darcey out, and threw her over the bridge into the water below. Join me in this latest true crime episode where I take you through this tragic story. Em x

All of us in Melbourne still struggle dealing with this Specially when we go over the bridge. RIP Darcy xx

His behaviour after being sentenced showed that he deserved LIFE in prison!

@suzimonkey345 1 year ago

His own child was simply an object that he could use to punish his wife! He couldn’t endure loosing control over her!

The fact that he said all women need to be punished and then proceeded to hurt only his daughter just screams premeditation and malice; by killing his daughter he punishes her for being a female and in turn punishes her mother with grief and loss, all because he lost what he felt automatically entitled to. It’s just devastating.

Darcey left this world alone, scared, cold, in pain & the most heartbreaking CONFUSED 😢😢. She was a daddys girl. She would've wondered why daddy did this.

I remember this day so well, the disbelief, the grief for Darcey and her family, her brothers seeing it, the strangers on the bridge that day that will never be able to forget that moment...and the anger at the sheer misogyny that played out in court. Devastating.

I live in Melbourne, and my daughter started her first day of school that day. It was gutteringly horrific. I found it hard to watch this video and igave my now 20 year old a big hug. Darcy would now also be 20. There are too many Aurthur Freemans in Australia. May she RIP

I worked cadaver k9s for years. One case was a father who threw all of his kids off of a bridge in Alabama. The youngest being an infant. We searched for days. It almost undid me and definitely broke me

I don’t believe this excuse for a human ever loved his family, he just loved the idea of them , like the home in Maida Vale and the skiing holidays, it was just about projecting an image of himself to the wider world- when this image was shattered by the divorce he literally had no further need for them and decided to hurt his ex wife as the “cause” of it all as he “discarded” them .

Stories like this break my heart. I see how lucky I am to have chosen a great father for my children. We couldn't make it as a couple, but we are so fluid with our children. They move between houses any time they choose. We don't pay child support. We just support what is needed, and a lot of times just wanted. Lol We both know our kids need us both. And we make sure they have that. I wish the whole world could be this way.

I also absolutely believe that the two main reasons he put his hazard lights on were, #1 He didn't want his car to get damaged by on coming traffic and #2 He was thinking of his Son's safety inside the vehicle!! He was actually protecting his sons, whilst knowing what he was about to do to his daughter! That's cold, calculated and in no way shape or form being in a 'trance like state.'

He's still alive, my ex husband kidnapped my 2 eldest daughters and kept them away from me for 14 years ... He got accidentally electrocuted 20 years ago...

As an Australian I will always remember this case. I live in NSW and I followed everything about Darcy, her death and her fathers ultimate betrayal of trust playing outin court.. I don't think that he should EVER be released from prison and he should rot there. As a parent and grandparent my heart goes out to her mother, her brothers, especially her oldest brother who must have tremendous PTSD after seeing his father do what he did to his sister, her grandparents on both sides, her extended family and those who had the ultimate misfortune of having to see the horror of watching a child being thrown off a bridge! Thank you Emma, you did this case justice and provided legacy for little Darcy! Such a shame that there are cases out there like this one! Many thanks for your coverage.

He absolutely knew what he was doing: yes he was clearly suffering from some mental health issues but he chose to end that sweet baby’s life and was well aware of his actions

Us Melbournians will always remember Darcy's sweet face we often think of this horror when we cross this bridge . They have erected high railings now but the reality is if wasn't this bridge, it would have been another . That monster of a human had evil intent that day so would have found some other unimaginable horror to inflect on that little girl .
