Anthony, the first bassist Ive heard play a be bop horn like solo was Jaco performing Donna Lee. Another bassist on upright with tremendous chops was the late Neil Hennings Orsted Pederson. Loved him with Oscar Peterson and Joe Pass! Thanks for posting!

Reminds me a bit of Alan Holdsworth's use of legato on guitar to try and get that horn style of articulation.
Cool lesson! Thanks :)

Great stuff man.. Thankyou..

Great ideas and techniques for articulation, I also recommend transcribing some bow upright bass (I do a lot of Paul Chambers and Slam Stewart) for similar studies on articulation, legato, staccato, slurs etc. Thanks!

"push to max speed.." followed by saying "o.k." way too quickly at 3:50. Well, I found it funny. You're an inspiring teacher.

man every bass player I talk to says the same thing “blah blah blah I’m just trying to sound like a sax player.” Me included of course. I remember a clinic Julian lage did where a homie asked him “how do I sound less like a guitar and more like a sax player” and he responds along the lines of “why the fuck would u want to do that?”
