Repeat after me: " if i have $400 to buy a wig, i have $400 to take care what is under it"

This may seem controversial, but I’m just hoping it helps someone. This behavior starts with consistently keeping the little one’s hair in braids, especially with added hair. They really need to have long consistent periods of having their hair out. The babies need to learn how to maintain their own hair right around middle school. They need to make the mistakes and try out styles THEY can do to keep it up. When your hair is always done for you and tucked away it’s no surprise that wigs would be the next natural progression of this and that our babies cannot feel pretty in their own hair. And feel like they can’t go out without it “done”.

The sad thing is that they never learn to work with their own hair so it leads to an unhealthy cycle of damage caused by over manipulation and dependence on fake hair to hide the damage.

I like her point about blurring the line between celebrities and showcasing glamour and everyday wear

We went from the shackles of relaxers to the shackles of wigs and weaves smh 🤦🏾‍♀️

Anything but wearing our own natural hair smh 😢

We need to get out of the mind space that our hair is “hard”. We go through hair struggles just like any other woman. No real person’s hair is camera ready 24/7

I always say, if you have to protect your hair 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 the style it’s 𝗡𝗢𝗧 a protective style.

Wigs are supposed to be for older women with thinning crowns. Young girls should definitely be wearing their own hair. This is sad.

My greatest sadness for this generation is that they don’t know what it feels like to just exist in the moment and enjoy life. Every day at any moment they could be in pictures or videos that could end up on every corner of the internet in seconds. That’s a lot of pressure to always be pulled together and ready on the spot. I’m grateful that my mom always put my wellbeing ahead of the trends I wanted to do like everyone else.

As a high school teacher myself, it breaks my heart every time I hear my young black female students say that they don't like their real hair. They genuinely think they're ugly without the weave, wigs, and braids.

Apparently, there is a licensed cosmetologist who specializes in 6-month sew-ins- sew-ins that last for 6 months. Let that sink in. Another licensed cosmetologist pointed out why no one should keep that style for 6 months, emphasizing how it harms the scalp and damages the follicles. It goes without saying that the commenters did not want to hear what she had to say. Also, regarding kids having no edges, let's ask who pays for the weaves and for them to be installed. That's really where the blame resides.

@angelinanotangie4172 9 months ago

The way they glue the wigs down, removing them is basically waxing off your edges. On top of the neglect that happens to the hair under the unnecessarily tight caps and wigs.

Headwraps are a blessing and more women should consider them as an option especially if they do not want to show their hair for whatever reason

What happened to the mothers that did their child’s hair in cute little twists and braids? My mother did our hair until we were confident in managing our natural hair.

@VirgosGroove3 9 months ago

4:15 Bingo 🎯 lace fronts were supposed to be for actors or celebrities. They can afford to have it installed and constantly switch up their hair. Why do average people think they need to be glammed up 24/7? We always act like something is wrong once our natural hair gets frizzy but other women who aren’t black have messy hair days all the time. 😮‍💨
I have my edges and I plan to keep it that way.

@8:35 Also, the obsession with "Laying Down Edges" is a problem.
Especially, since ALOT of the products being used are toxic.

@MizzNee796 9 months ago

this is nuts! i remember back in the 80's when weaves first came out, you had to make sure your hair blended...that was the main issue. If a girl wore an actual wig, she got clowned, wigs were for old ladies. oh how the times have changed.
