Can You Beat FFX Doing Only What's Absolutely Mandatory!

Watch my other challenge runs here: Challenge Runs

After a little more than 1.5 years we are back with another FFX Challenge Run, this time trying to beat the game doing only what's absolutely necessary to advance.

This means:
Mandatory Battles Only (No Random Encounters at all)
No Summons
No Overdrives,
No Customize
-No Refighting Bosses for favourable drops

This was a nice change of pace to the NSG challenges you usually see otherwise and I would really like to do more FFX Challenges down the line!

All of the "optional" aeons appear in the final fmv cutscene, so yuna canonically DOES obtain them

Auron still has unfinished business that allows him to resist the sending. Earlier when he's outside the farplane, it's much harder for him to resist and he struggles to hold on which causes him a lot of pain.

The "dumbass me when I was a kid challenge". I used to do that in every RPG I played when I was too young to understand them

@HarukaLPs 1 year ago

When i was a kid, i didnt understand the sphere grid and fled from every optional battle, so i basically already did this 😅

fun fact: you can cast Haste magic on mortibody during the Seymour bossfight in Bevelle. This trick is actually a pretty reliable way to throw the enemies out of synch, but giving mortibody more turns is risky as hell, so it isn't always the best solution. just figured I'd put this out there, since you kept trying to fit one of your party members' turns in between the bosses turns.

Commenting before watching! FFX is my favorite game of all time and has a special place in my heart. Glad it’s still relevant to this day.

Treasure chests are technically optional.

Getting the destruction sphere chests without getting Anima hurts my soul lol

1:04:04 the reason Auron isn't affected here is because she's sending Seymour to HELL

"Defender X is free" that's the part where I had to start grinding as a kid.

1:04:14 I hadn’t wondered, but I imagine it’s because of the proximity to the farplane during Jyscal’s sending, making Auron more sensitive at the time. It could also be that his guard was down in Guadosalam relative to being inside Sin, where he would be more on alert due to the proximity to the enemy. Just my personal theory, not based on any lore.

This is unintentionally how I played it my first time at 13 years old 😅

Love this challenge. I suggested something similar to another runner and they thought I was an idiot.

My headcanon for that cutscene is In Guadosalam Auron wasn't as immediately driven & close to his goal of beating Seymour & Sin / freeing Jecht/Spira. He's not going to be sent when he's so close to what's keeping him from going to the Farplane anyway.

I was watching this for a while thinking "is it actually possible" then I remembered how Kimari usually solos the second Seymour fight in a nsgnsncnonennenbb challenge... thin I remember that there's an ffx nsgnsncnonennenbb challenge.

To answer your question about why Auron wasnt sent after the final fight with Seymour, IIRC it was explained somewhere that sendings are targeted, meaning unless Yuna is specifically trying to send Auron he wont be affected

@Decade-c9k 1 year ago

This was more fun to watch than any NSG challenge!

Let's call it the: I forgotten the Kessel at home one the Stove Challenge.

@joshfleming_91 11 months ago

The reason why auron wasn't affected by the sending was because they weren't in the farplain or by the entrance

42:24 Sanctuary Keepers Photon Wings is one of the coolest attacks in the entire game. This whole boss is honestly one of my favs.

Also, really cool challenge and amazing video!

01:04:05 also my headcanon here (when I thought about it after you pointed it out): Auron has a very strong will and dedication to his mission, so he can resist sendings, usually. The other one was just way to close to the farplanes and made it stronger.
But yeah, that probably just some excuse for a dev oversight :)

01:05:52 the true first tricky part is to not get lost in the song :P
