So first off, THANK YOU everyone for making this (by far) my most successful video ever!!!

All the feedback has been amazing! I appreciate everyone sharing their thoughts.

It seems like the consensus here is that y'all agree but I didn't give (our boy) Rupert enough credit for his acting. And... Yeah I probably could've spent more time highlighting his strengths. Like the argument scene in Deathly Hallows. Say what you want about the scene itself, but Rupert played his emotions really well in that scene.

I still think his strengths were different than what would've made him like the book character. But I'll give y'all this one.

But again, just thanks for checking this video out. I had fun making it and I'm very much enjoying reading what everyone else thinks.

P.S. if you're interested, my next video is gonna be about the new Dune film adaptations! I'm also reading "Mistborn" for the first time and will make a video about it once I'm finished. So consider sticking around if any of that sounds interesting! And I also have a new Letterboxd for the channel! Just look for "Paradox_exe" under members.

Harry had more chemistry with a waitress in the fifth movie than with ginny throughout all the movies

I can maybe see your point with Ginny.
But I always felt Rupert Grint was the best actor of the three. I think from the first film they saw he was the best at bringing some convincing levity and comic relief to the screen, so they ran with it, undermining the character's other traits.

I will die on my hill that they could've DEFINITELY picked better than Bonnie Wright. It wasn't just the writing. Her face, her tone, her body language, her behavior, nothing ever changed. Ginny is a fierce girlie. She was the cool girl once she came into her own.

“Why is it he’s always covered in blood?” said Ginny passively.

If Rupert had been given the chance he probably could've pulled off even the more intense lines imo, as evidenced in his later work

Nah I completely agree with this. Bonnie didn’t deliver a SINGLE line properly and you just can’t blame the writers for that at that point. She just was a wrong choice for the character. That’s all.

this guy looks like harry potter

there never seems to be a break from the awkwardness between harry and ginny. they’re awkward teenagers who never share a moment of comfortability and then all of a sudden they’re married with babies

I concede your point for Ginny, but for Rupert I think you dropped the ball on that. Even if the weaknesses of the writers could be excused by Whrite not being a good actor, I feel like for Rupert they intentionally made him a comic relief character. He showed his acting chops especially in the latter movies. I feel like they did him dirty

13:20 Comparision of Bonnie and Emma body acting while hugging Harry.

I’d say Ginny in the first 2 movies was great, but only because her character was supposed to be an awkward little fan girl. As the books went on she turned into a total boss babe. I 100% agree with your take on the acting getting worse as the character aged, I didn’t realise how bad it truly was until you laid it all out though

Bonnie’s acting was bad even in the most simple scenes. I never understood why the fandom just can’t admit that she’s not a good actress.

I think that they cast her before knowing she would grow up to be Harry's love interest. They just picked a red headed child. When they made the first movie she was just the shy little sister in the books.

Rupert could have said the "8f you want to kill Harry" line totally fine. THAT was the writers preferring Hermione. Ginny is just a bad actor

For me, Luna would have been a better love interest in the movies. They were so cute together. Their relationship was more fleshed out too somehow, in despite of Evanna having less screen time. They had better chemistry. Evanna Lynch had far more range and did a lot with her total screen time of 17:15 minutes. Since Ginny was botched on the screen, I think Luna would have been the more sound choice.

THANK YOU! I've been saying this for so long. The writers are to blame for Ginny but so is Bonnie Wright. Just observe her when the Trio finds out Fred is dead. Everyone is acting their hearts out and Bonnie just stands there. If she was going for shell shocked she failed miserably. She always stands like a robot in every scene and like you said has the exact same expression for every line. Fandom is r ally defensive of her but she was genuinely a bad actress. The actors for Seamus, Neville etc made so much of such little screen time. You get a sense of their personality.

I do disagree with you about Rupert Grint though. He was a fantastic actor who really was done dirty. He could have pulled off that line in POA. He was capable of balancing serious and funny like Ron was.

I did like Rupert's acting, at least in the first movies, but I've always thought Bonnie was really bad as Ginny. The writing did not help at all, but her body language and line delivery frustrate me. The "why is he always covered in blood?" line just freaks me out lol. Even her "shut it!" from Half-Blood Prince, which should be her most book!Ginny moment, sounds so stiff - reminds me of Gal Gadot's "enough!" in Snow White.

I disagree about Rupert. There's an example of his being serious and protective in the first movie, when he was at his youngest. and we have seen him get very angry and passionate a couple of times. Especially in that scene where Harry and Ron have a falling out while on the run, and that was in the same movie as the Malfoy Manor scene. That movie actually has a few scenes where Rupert is able to show his range, though I think one or two of them wound up cut and only added to special editions. I think he deserves a lot more credit than he gets here. When given range, he delivers it. So I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that those moments in which his emotions are downplayed came from the writers. In fact, i remember reading somewhere that the Malfoy Manor scene was cut quite a bit because it was getting to be what the filmmakers considered a bit too disturbing for young viewers. Even Hermione's performance was softened.

However, totally agree about Bonnie. I don't see how anyone can classify her as a decent actress, and I say that with all the love in the world.

19:19 They also shoot her wide and the incredibly dark lighting makes it nigh impossible to see the fact she’s been crying. As much as I want to love the HBP’s cinematography, it feels like the beginning of the “can’t see shit” cinematography so prevalent today.
