Catcalling… An 11 year old? ………….. 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

Cho Chang is another one. She was grieving her murdered boyfriend but gets so many hate for it.

I also felt sorry for Dean Thomas. He saw Ginny kiss Harry like a week after they broke up.

I liked Lavender Brown . She was one of my favorite background characters. I thought she was nice and caring.
I  actually got bit mad at Hermione at the scene where Lavender loses her pet. Hermione was so selfish. 😔

I think one of the things that really disturbs me about Lavender Brown’s death - she’s mauled to death by a werewolf.   Werewolves have always been linked with sexually predatory men.

The feminine girl’s fate is being savaged by a predator, who the intellectual girl spots and kills.

And it kind of echoes what happened with Umbridge and the centaurs.

I don’t know if I’m reading too much into that, but it just seems weird that Lavender Brown has such a dark ending.

she was a marvelous student. she aced most of her owls, including transformations which is arguably the hardest subject taught in hogwarts and was passionate about divination, which we hate on a lot but its just because "hermione thinks is bs". she was part of the DA and fought to (apparent) death in the hogwarts war. she was a true griffindor and she loved ron when they were together. but half of the fandom hate her because "she got in the way of ron and hermione". such bullshit.

Lavender gets cat-called by the Weasley Twins after the sorting??? I've never noticed that OMG. I think back when I read it and listened to the audiobooks as a kid and young teenie I simply did not know what the term meant. (Also I am not native english speaker and don't live in a native english-speaking country)

Her dynamic with trelawney was adorable

I used to be a big Harry Potter fan but around Deathly Hallows when Molly killed Bellatrix
it occurred to me "this author I have looked up to thinks you're not a woman if you're not a mother."  Main reason I never bought the concept of The Cursed Child.  Baby momma Bellatrix would have been fueled by LOVE and MATERNAL INSTINCT.  I'm childless and pushing 40.  I collect dolls and love my cat.  I'm trash in her world.  I'm a villain because I have broad shoulders and big hands.    I am at best a joke and at worst evil.

Lavender Brown is SO relatable. We all did something we weren't supposed to in the middle of class. We've all been strung along by someone we liked (romantically or platonically).
Edit: Lavender was also canonically black in the first two films.

She didn't deserve the hate.

I even wrote a fanfic on Wattpad, about Harry and his brother. Where Harry's brother ends up with Lavender Brown

Thank you for your defense of Lavender.  I always felt sorry for her, since it seemed obvious that she was being used.  Her primary purpose for existing seemed to be so that Ron could get more sexual experience and "catch up" to the Krom-snogging Hermione.  And then she was mocked, ghosted, and killed.  Rowling created an amazing world, but it's a bit disappointing that such a toxic trope made it into print.

Omg, thank you so much for this video! I love your approach and analysis. I'm only on minute 10, but I wanna add a character to the list of misrepresented feminine characters. Cho Chang. She was presented as this unreasonable and jealous girlfriend, as some sort of inadequate crybaby. She was basically shamed for her "crazy girl emotions". No matter the fact that she was still grieving and had an insecure attachment to Harry because she lost Cedric. Also, the stereotype of the "hysterical woman" has to go. It is so dismissive of emotions and mental health struggles that are actually very real and valid. This just further highlights JK Rowling's views.

I was annoyed with Lavender because I thought she's used the love potion on Ron in Half-blood Prince (I didn't watch HBP for a long time then and didn't remember it for sure) and when I've found out it wasn't her, I've started to pity her so much. girl just was in love..

Thank you so much for this video!
I have a similar thoughts, but on Fleur, yet you made me realize how prolematic is the way Rowling created poor Lavender.
I was recently re-reading all HP books which I LOVED when I was a teen. Ok, sure, as an adult I can now see very clearly all those little and big things that just don't make sense in the plot, but you know, I wanted to feel the Hogwarts vibe again.
I reached the beginning of the sixth book and... I can't. I just can't read it anymore. And it's because of the way Rowling portrays Fleur in the sixth book.
There is the part where Harry, Ron, Ginny and Hermione are talking about Fleur and here are some quotes from that:

'Ginny: "I know someone who's worse than Umbridge. (...) It's her. She's driving me mad.
"What's she's done now?" asked Hermione sympathetically (!).
"It's the way she talks to me - you'd think I was about three!"
"I know" said Hermione, dropping her voice. "She's so full of herself." '
~
'(Molly) "Whereas Bill and Fleur... well... what have they really got in common? He's a hardworking, down-to-earth sort of person, whereas she's - "
"A cow" - said Ginny nodding.'

And then she calls Fleur "Phlegm" which makes Harry and Hermione laugh.
Ginny also mentions that Mrs. Weasley will surely "put a stop to it if she can".
And when Harry defends Fleur by stating that she's also intelligent (because Ginny and Hermione start to compare Fleur to Tonks for absolutely no reason and of course must attack her inteligence, because again, she's a beautiful girl) Hermione goes "Not you as well!".

I mean... wow. Just wow.
And I could've understood that if Fleur was some kind of a mean girl that was created to hate, but she's not. She's done NOTHING bad, she's being actually nice to people, but sure, she's a beautiful, elegant girl who's aware of her looks so it's okay to hate her for that, to call her "worse than Umbridge" (wtf?) and a cow (wtf???).

I just couldn't read it anymore. No plot hole hit me as hard as this did and after your video I know what's coming next in the book - the horrible way Hermione and Ron treat Lavender. How am I going to sympatize with Hermione and Ginny after that? No way I'm going to do that to myself.

In the harry potter lego games, Lavender was always my go too playable character. I don't know why, she just was. In retrospect she really deserved more respect from the narrative, her worst crime was being slightly annoying but even then it was quite mild in the text.

"Why would you dread him dying when he's young" meanwhile, me, a 25 year old grown ass adult with anxiety, sobbing several times the first year I had my two first cats because I knew one day they'd die and they meant so much to me and helped my mental health so much that I dreaded when I'd no longer have them. This is very normal. Yet another example of Harry Potter failing as a children's novel. Typically these stories are supposed to teach SOMETHING. While a lesson like "Worrying over things you can't control will only needlessly distress you, try enjoying the time you have with your beloved animals while you can instead of filling that time with suffering" is meaningful, HP just mocks Lavender Brown for the audacity of having human emotions. I think instead making an exception and allowing Lavender to take her rabbit to school would be more fitting. If you can have a cat, rat, snake, owl, or toad, I see no reason why you can't bring your rabbit, too.

Also I can't believe I didn't remember the part where Lavender Brown gets catcalled. Jesus H Christ

we should all, collectively, worldwide, stop talking about HP.

Another comment: notice that Romilda Vane didn't had any consequences for attempting to put a love potion to Harry.

Rowling is too concentrated to ridicule Lavender than to see what was really bad in the whole situation!

Lavender was always one of my favorite characters, even if I wasn’t the most girly person. She was generally really sweet and just wanted Ron to show her some affection and we were meant to hate her for it. She had such a reasonable request but she was treated as a villain. I wish her death had been talked about more :(.
