The legacy of apartheid still shapes daily life in stark, uncomfortable ways — the divide between rich and poor, safe and unsafe, tourist-friendly and off-limits.

After filming, we became aware of serious allegations of domestic and sexual abuse made against our Langa guide and Langa For Men founder. These allegations are currently under investigation.

That decision is never simple. Do we understand enough about the country to speak responsibly? Are we free to voice what can be perceived as criticism, especially in countries where speech is restricted? Can we find voices and stories that accurately represent the issues? Do we have enough time?
We spent over a month in Cape Town, and the longer we stayed, the more impossible it felt to ignore what we were seeing — the legacy of apartheid shaping everyday life in stark, visible ways; a deep frustration among locals with government corruption and mismanagement; one of the world’s widest economic divides, where the quality of your life and opportunities depends largely on what you look like.
What made it possible for us to tell this story were the incredible people we met — some online, some by pure chance — who opened up to us, shared their experiences, and took us to corners of the city we could never have reached on our own.
