That being said, I wanna bring up a few things I feel are important, but I only realized in hindsight.
1: When I say “magical girls aren’t respected” I mean the genre as a whole. Sailor Moon/Cardcaptor Sakura/Madoka Magica ARE highly regarded series, but they don’t make up the whole of the magical girl genre. If those are the only three shows that get talked about, that’s ignoring a heck of a lot more stories.
2: Please note that I said WESTERN anime fandom. Generally meaning the US, Australia, England, Canada, and the like. Yes I know that Precure is one of the largest franchises in Japan, but outside of Japan? It’s barely mentioned at all. Which I think is a shame.
3: This video is NOT “ugh men”. It is about misogyny, which both men AND women can contribute to. It is a cultural bias rather than a single person’s bigotry.
4: I neglected to mention that another key part in the decline of magical girls IPs is Japan’s decreasing birth rate. Which makes sense. Most magical girl shows are for a young audience. And the idea is that if people aren’t having children, there won’t be any young girls to make a show for.
5: The brief mention of Gushing Over Magical Girls. I acknowledge it as part of the genre but it should also be acknowledged that is is not a fundamental pillar of the genre. So the fact I didn’t talk about it much shouldn’t be that big of a deal? An etcchi parody series shouldn’t be a primary definition for a whole genre.
I think that’s about everything. Again, thank you everyone who support this video, liked it, left a comment, or got into fights in the comments! This much attention means a whole lot and makes my heart all kinds of excited. Thank you for everything, and I hope to see you around soon~
