Very impressed with your reaction - you're the only person I've watched reacting to the big hits videos who has even noticed that in almost all cases, the ones knocked down, get straight back up again to rejoin play
You made some very accurate assumptions about the rules of rugby, which is pretty rare for people watching rugby for the first time. Now you've seen the hits, you should definitely check out some tries (touchdowns) or just skill plays in general.
Gday mate,20 year veteran of New Zealand 😮rugby. The difference between soccer and rugby is.Soccer players spend 90 minutes pretending to be hurt, rugby players spend 80 minutes pretending NOT to be hurt.🇳🇿🇳🇿
…when I was 13 , my maths teacher came in on Monday morning ( he was our home teacher) , with 2 black eyes and a split lip ….his name was John Jeffries and he played for the Welsh national team in 1973 against Tonga…….We all said collectively “ Aw Sir “.!!! and he just sat down , laughed and said “ you should’ve seen the other bloke “ …and he went on to demonstrate , how later in the match running up to this 7 foot tall Tongan , putting his hand on his shoulder and rising up in the air above him and smacking him on his head ….🫢😬.
if this is the first time watching rugby you may be getting a wrong impression that the game is basically big hits. Try watching a full game or 'best tries'. You'll soon realise how skillful, fast thinking and exciting this game really is. Please don't miss it.
Also, in rugby, because there is no protective gear, it's actually "safer" because the rules are formulated to protect the players more. Rugby players are taught how to tackle properly and be more aware of danger in the game. Dangerous play is immediately scrutinised, and if need be, harshly punished by referees. Red cards, yellow cards, sin-bin etc. Best game ever.
rugby match is 80 minutes and there's a heavy emphasis on no time wasting and to keep play moving as dynamic as possible. the ref is always on open mic so you'll hear everything the ref says during the match and you'll often hear the ref constantly telling players to get a move on during set plays to keep the game flowing. it's literally the opposite of american football when the play stops every 10-20 seconds for every little thing and then players stand around for a while .
Every time I turn on American football, it’s another commercial break. There’s no flow to the game just five seconds of action followed by ten minutes of ads. How do you guys stay awake? 😏
Springboks (South African National team) New Zealand, France, England, Argentina are some of the best teams. Springboks are the current back to back world champions. They won in 2019 and 2023.
