Shane proved that you don’t have to be built like a monster to play rugby

As a Welshman i endorse this video.

I will argue that Shane Williams was our best player of all time. The speed and agility, the energy he produced and the excitement he created in the game of Rugby. For a guy so small he was actually very strong, could still tackle guys bigger than him, could jump to catch, and could also provide great openings for his teammates . Early and mid 2000s were special in Welsh rugby

You should check out the Welsh national anthem, land of my father's it translates as, spine tingling stuff. The Welsh love singing 😂. Respect to our brothers across the Irish sea.

Shane was only 5'8" a small man in a game with many giants. Told he was too small to play. But.... he heart, skills and incredible speed. When he got the ball... the fans became excited. A special player ....universally loved in Wales and respected in the rugby world.

Love from north Wales mate 👍

"Just give the ball to Shane".  Yep, that was pretty much the Welsh tactic of the 2008 Six Nations and he basically won the Grand Slam for us, scoring six tries in five games.  Two against Scotland and Italy and one against Ireland and France.  Although you have to also say that the Welsh defence was incredible in that campaign, conceding only two tries in the whole tournament.

Dude, he was 5 foot 7, and like 176 pounds. Is still Wales highest try scorer. He is no.4 all time for test match tries (a 'test match' is the highest tier of international rugby).

Try area is fine even if it is not correct. At least you are not calling it the end zone. You are picking up the rugby term well. Keep up the good work!

Gotta watch Jason Robinson. Him, Bryan Habana and Shane Williams were my favourite players during that era

Probably the best player Wales and world rugby have had in the modern era. Was very small and told he would never make it at international level. Had a few international caps but was left out for a couple of years until he was chosen as a 3rd choice player for a world cup. Had a chance and the rest is history.
So fast of the mark, hell of a side step and could get out of tackles as he was small and strong could read the game too.
From the same Valley as Shane and he is a very down to earth bloke. Was the first and only Welsh Player to win the  IRB player of the year.

Wales used to be such a strong team, producing so many world class players. As a South African it is depressing to see them in their current state.

Shane has the record for most tries scored by a Welsh player.
He's short. That means a low center of gravity. That helps a lot when tackling. What impressed me the most when watching him play was how much he worked when he didn't have the ball. You're not going to see that in a highlight video.
14:14- How did he not get it down?' Shane put his body between the ball and the ground.
Shane retired in 2015.
He made 3 tours with the B&I Lions.
16:55- That's not extra time. It's not uncommon for a match to run a few minutes over. If the ball is in play and the time runs out play doesn't stop. The match doesn't end while the ball is in play. Also, like American football, the match can not end with a penalty. I remember one match that there were so many penalties at the end that it went over 100 minutes.
Extra time is only for league Championship or playoffs.
17:44 "Did they come back?" No. That was Shane's last match. He scored in his last match.

Stutter step = goose step

If you ever get the chance, watch the last 10 minutes of the that Wales v Scotland (2010) match where it was 24-24 before the final try. Probably one of the most exciting finishes to a game in 6 Nations History. Nothing on the line, but Wales went behind after about 5 minutes, and never looked like winning for the first 70m, then it was like they suddenly came alive. This was the game where the post-match celebration resulted in Andy Powell getting arrested for driving a Golf Buggy to the Motorway Services (This will mean next to nothing to you, but is still a legendary morning news story in Wales).

That game against Austrailia was his last game , last try and look at the clock

Remember the Nike advert featuring Jordan where everyone pauses when he gets the ball? T when Shane was in his pomp thats exactly what it was like.

What a player Shane was, a Phenomenal player that played for a Phenomenal Country. Cymru am Byth 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

As a Welshman Shane is arguably one of if not the best Welsh winger ever, an awsome player, voted world rugby player of the year, and being told once he was too small for rugby.
