As horrific as it is, in an innocent scenario, using billy Joel as a boogey man is the funniest concept to me. Eat your vegetables or else billy Joel will blow up our house!!

Imagine being Billy Joel and getting this story explained to you

The number of total morons in this case is unfathomable. The police, the social workers, the grandmother - all failed these children.

this is why they had the “IT’S 10 PM DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR CHILDREN ARE?” PSA.  like damn you don’t gotta be a helicopter parent to realize some shit is up

As someone who truly does have DID, and has lived with it for almost 50 years, I can 100% say that is not how DID manifests itself.

One of my high school friends, Carrie, had a "cool mom". Everyone loved her except me, she gave me the chills. She went with us to bars and clubs, to our parties, etc. She spoke to us about condoms once and it was 🤢. She used to start music parties of her own in their house, then she just sat on the couch and watched us dance and took our pictures, which for me was super creepy.
Now, this Carrie had a best friend Maggie. After a few years The Creepy Mom destroyed this friendship without any explanation to us. Maggie had no idea what is going on. Carrie wanted to talk to her but The Cool Mom said she can't. She wanted her daughter to be friends with another girl, more vulnerable and prone to manipulation. I remember Maggie was totally broken hearted.
Beware of cool moms that pretend to be kids. There is usually something wrong with them.

Didn’t the parents of these kids start thinking something weird was going on with their kids? I know kids can get very good at hiding what they’re doing from their parents, but this is over the top.

I’m so pissed at dcfs which SAW a child was abused and believed the abuser bc ‘she seemed nice’. Those people need to be stripped of their jobs and shamed in the town square

I think the fact that she actively pretended to take phone calls with billy and explained that she was injected with some mind control drug, throws the DID diagnosis out the window for me. I think that she was definitely suffering with some mental illness but i think she was still responsible for her actions. It's very calculated to make literal children commit your crimes so that your hands stay clean.

She ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT HAVE DID! This is a clear case of a severely evil person that got off on torture and pain.

How could anyone think with even a shred of confidence that BILLY JOEL had time to do all this?

As a parent, this one REALLY bothered me. Wth is wrong with people. The fact that nobody sensed that something was wrong is just mind blowing. My God, this could be happening next door and noone would say a word.  Truly frightening.

This is insane. I’m sorry you have a 14 year old son and you let that someone checked him out of school go. You have a “hunch” he’s with Marie. Wow I would’ve busted down that door so fast. This is insane.

I distinctly remember a fight with my mom bc she wasn’t “cool” like my friends mom. She said I’m not supposed to be cool I’m supposed to be your mom. I still can’t thank her enough for that.

This whole case is heinous and shocking. But I can't wrap my head around "Marie then convinced a totally different group of older adults that she was possessed by Billy Joel." What? What??

She really just said “Billie Juice” and kept on going thinking I would pay attention to anything after that.

As a person who was severely abused as a child, by my family, and came out of it with the diagnoses of DID. Please please understand that just because a person has DID, it doesn't mean they are violent.

What I find the most disturbing in this whole story is the absence of the parents of the kids involved.  If my 12-13 yo was always at someone else's house, I would be over there too.  Then again, I have never really trusted 'perfect' strangers with my kids.  Still, I consider the parents of the kids to be partly responsible for what their kids did and what was done to them.  Surely, the kids would have had some sort of behavioural changes that would have indicated something was off.  I have raised five kids and when something is wrong, they show it even if they don't verbalise it.  I don't believe for one moment that Marie had D.I.D.  As you say, she was a manipulator and all of her actions would not tie into a person with split personalities.  She would not have 'used' Billy before he 'took over'.  Poor kids and poor Ricky. I wonder how they managed their lives after such traumatic experiences.

I've been a psychiatric registered nurse for 29 years. That evil woman did not have D.I.D. Which is an EXTREMELY rare but real psychiatric illness. There are plenty of books and movies that are very well known and widely available and undoubtedly anything that Marie learned about D.I.D. would have been learned from one of those sources. My deepest condolences and prayers go out to the victims in this case and to Billy Joel.
