Late Roman Empire kinda sounds like present U.S.A. .

Am i supposed to be sleeping? Yes. Am I going to stay up for an hour to watch this? Yes…

If only they had 20 million power 😔

Those who don’t know their history are destined to repeat it, those who do are cursed to watch in terror,  crying warnings into the aether, and being scorned as madmen for their alarm, as others repeat it for them. 😔

Lesson of the Roman Republic- having an extensive foreign empire isn’t good for a representative government at home.

Take a shot for every time someone compares late Rome to America

What surprised me the most was the complete absence of Marcus Aurelius.

There's nothing we can do.

                               -Romulus Augustus

Dangit! Now I'm thinking about the Roman Empire. The one thing I actively try to avoid doing.

The more you get older , the more you enjoy these type of videos instead of movies

Quite a few inaccuracies here: The video also makes it seem like Caesar was elected as sole dictator of Rome when in reality he gave himself this role after he defeated Pompey. Marcus Antonius was killed by Octavian's men in a civil war after the 2nd Triumvirate broke down, Octavian only named himself Augustus after he had sole power of Rome. Also Augustus took a very long time to become emperor, he just gained many powerful political roles and further enhanced his popularity and image until the decision would be popular enough with the Roman public for him to become emperor

Powerful quote that is alleged to be spoken by a weeping Scipio Aemilianus, while watching the destruction of the city of Carthage - “A glorious moment, Polybiius; but I have a dread foreboding that some day the same doom will be pronounced on my own country.”

How true that was 😢

1 hour about Rome and didnt even mention the first ever recorded big moneyprinting with the devaluation of the Denarius, beginning after Cäsars death....

One of the main things I took from this video is whoever in the elite tries to help the common person or poor were killed or chased out of power.

We're watching the decline of western civilization before our eyes. This time period would be crazy for historians to study and ask why we intentionally caused and welcomed our own demise

50:26 Constantine did NOT make Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire. He tolerated it and legalized it, and he himself was Christian, but the actual conversion of the Roman Empire was under Theodosius I decades later.

I‘m a woman and I think about the Roman Empire every day. I’ve always been interested in it. It’s a lifetime - long journey to understand it and to read all their literature.

Very nice summary.
The issue of citizenship through the army was an issue as it was granted to everyone and no one needed to join the army thus recruitment dried up.
