Apparently there is a very similar video by a youtuber named Spoon which I will link in this comment. Just want to clear up I've never even seen that video until you guys brought it up. This is a video idea I've had written down for a long time with this exact title, but I don't want to seem like I'm copying anyone else or trying to steal views so please check out Spoon's video too!

I just watched it and really enjoyed it! It goes over a lot of things I didn't about Mega Man in general so I highly suggest you watch it!

Anybody who's annoyed about using a few Bubble Leads to check for holes never played Castlevania 2 as a kid

"Mega Man 2 is the best!"

"No it's 3"

"No it's 4"

Meanwhile me playing Mega Man 7 for the 20XX time.

"Super Mario Bros. doesn't have any continues." So you never held the a button when starting after a game over in SMB 1?

Wow. I never thought about this one that deeply. I always thought you were SUPPOSED to die, farm, and kill the room on the second go. I forgot about the devices to move around.

This room is the equivalent of a door in Resident Evil needing 6 shotgun shells to open up. Not your pistol rounds or your knife. Specifically the shotgun.

Back in my old NES gaming my strategy was: destroy the walls, get killed, backtrack all the way to the beginning of the stage and grab the two big weapon energy capsules and then go back and face the boombeam trap without the walls.

I think the Boobeam Trap is also a victim of Mega Man 2's bad weapon balancing. You can tell looking at Mega Man 2 compared to later games in the series that the developers didn't have a grasp on how to balance weapon energy consumption, since that's part of what makes Metal Blade so broken and several weapons bad, to say nothing of Time Stopper's mechanics. Crash Bomber is held back more by its terrible ammo economy than anything else, and the Boobeam Trap really drives that home.

On a side note, there is a little trick you can use to destroy both the top nodule in the upper left and the destructible wall below it with a single bomb, which will allow you to save a single use. And if you can time it right, you can use that one bomb to one-shot phase 2 of the Wily Machine.

So Dr. Wily could've won by just making only Boobeam Traps instead of rouge robots?

You absolutely can farm weapon energy in the platform sections. It is a bit awkward but it can definitely be done. It is also worth noting that the doors in the boss stay broken after dying which does make the boss more manageable after a death (as long as you have ammo).

I don't think this boss was bad, or boring, just poorly implemented

I don't mind a second video on this topic, the Crash Bomber boss is awful enough to be hated on some more.

me and a friend would always farm the "blue trashcans" on the first platform screen, just waiting at the top of the exit ladder and hitting them at the last moment; sometimes we'd screw up and drop a big energy pickup on the spikes nearby, so we'd damage-boost to try to get it

it was not quick, but it worked

I was playing this with my kiddo this weekend and we got stuck here. And loved trying over and over again. It was fun having to react quick while using your brain to figure out exactly which ones to bomb. Actually the more I had to play the level over and over the more I realized it might have been my favorite level in the whole game!

And the further I got into your video the more I realized you do not feel the same.😂

Thank you Nintendo power for telling me the pause trick for the boss.

Shout out to the old string cheese commercial at 4:55. "Hey Vinny, give this kid a cheese with nothin'."

The worst part is right after that is the rematch with the 8 robot masters.  I would've loved to have every weapon on full power for that part so I could experiment.

Farming is actually not bad in the moving platform part because enemies keep coming at you at a slow pace (the area at the 4:08 mark)

You can spam killing the blue "trash cans" (called "Tellys") in the first scrolling room by standing on the ladder to go down and facing right. That makes it so only the opening on the right spits out enemies and you can kill them right before they hit you so they drop their health/energy boosts at your feet, allowing you to fill your Crash Bomber power before moving on after you die. It still sucks because it takes forever (in NES terms), but that's much easier than killing the Sniper Armor enemies in the hallway before the Boobeam encounter. This doesn't fix this level, but its at least a bit easier.

The "Timer" problem comes from how certain versions they just fire too quickly. I'm not really one of those people who knows every iteration of every version of every game, but I have played through MM2 a lot (100 times plus easily) and there were times I flew through this boss and other times when doing everything near perfectly I was still only able to kill the last one like a half-second before it would fire the last bullet that would kill me. Not really sure what causes the discrepancy but it's definitely real.

There's a way to make this boss worse. Be epileptic. Now you have to solve the puzzle before the awful sprite-flicker puts you in the hospital.
