I bought the classic, when the were just issued, as i saw the potential for streaming music to the whole house via LAN, as i did not have wifi at that point. My house is hardwired through a 48 port switch (a tedious project under a house renovation), so now a network outlet is mostly everywhere, even in one of my bathrooms, where i have a SB radio.
Right now I run 4 SB Touches, connected via toslink to cheap external dacs (Cambridge Audio/Topping) I Bought a few Duets, but they were not up to it soundqualitywise, the remotes are cool though! And works with all SB products. Now, everything is run by a linux computer with Lyrion software, where I store most of my music in lossless or Mp3 320 Mbps. So you might say I am enthusiast for these groundbreaking units. Right now I try to find out how to stream lossless from Spotify/Spotty.
All my systems are budget and vintage (If that is an appropiate word for this hobby) and consists of mostly SONY ES amplifiers/receivers a TA-F700ES, a TA-F570ES, a 1978 STR-V6, and a 1976 STR-6800SD, the latter is my favorite, a great sounding unit, I even have one in my vacation/retirement home in Asia, also set up in a SB system.
Speakers are also "vintage" Dansh built Jamo Classic 10's, (5 sets bought seconhand) which I find "full range", as I don't have any subwoofers.
I even have a 1978 Technics direct drive turntable, but I actually prefer straming, as I find dynamics and clarity better.
Time moves on.. I guess I should not say that, since I mainly uses gadget, that are since long out of production..
But, I am very happy with my systems as they are, and a good mesure for that is; I am not looking for anything better..
All these systems brings me goosebumps, and tears to my eyes, when playing good mastered recordings like Dire Straits Telegraph Road, amonst others.
And yes, room-correction and speaker placement is a definitive way to a good soundstage, it does'nt matter how much money you spend, if this is not taken into taken into the equation.
Keep up your good work, as I find your videos unpretensious, and objective, with a lot of useful info, even if I am not out there to find anything "better".
Thank you!
