No Airplay 2.
This kills it for me. Apple has, I think, the most comprehensive offering in classical music.

I really like my WIIM Ultra but I wish I could add it to the Apple Home Kit. The older WIIM devices were able to connect. So it is relegated to the occasional blue tooth, iphone music player. The connection to the home WIFI is setup but it will only connect to 1 set of powered speakers in another room. I am hoping a future firmware will add the functionality.

Put a smsl po100 on it. Made mine sound way better. Very noticeable. Something about reclocking mumbo jumbo. I was skeptical, I thought I wasted my 60 bucks. I heard it immediately

I feel like I know the answer to this but thought I’d ask anyway.
Can the ultras sub out be used even if you are only using the ultra as a streamer? For example my thought is to use the wiim as a streamer into a external Dac into my preamp which has volume control. I asked this question to Wiim and they responded yes, however I’m not sure how? Any insight would be appreciated, thanks from Canada

This is a fantastic bit of kit. The sound quality is incredible given its price

THX for a very nice review much appreciated by this old timer at 74, a quasi - audiophile . I have a question ?. Can i connect the Ultra via HDMI to my Denon DRA-800H AVR receiver in order to receive Streaming stereo signals which will play to the Denon's connected speakers - I have not connected the Denon for Video yet . The Denon has its own proprietary Home Entertainment system called HEOS. I use HEOS to play Streamers (Tidal [however the interrelationship is not great by any means in that being able to select genres , individual tunes, etc on the Tidal Phone App will not incorporate into HEOS], Spotify, Amazon Music, etc.) on the Denon . I do not kniow the DAC specs on the Denon. Would the Ultra offer better performance that the Denon's system? Moreover, HEOS software is generally Fair at best - no where near what I see on Ultra reviews .

I've come here looking for an on-screen example of browsing a SMB network share where a music library is stored (MP3/FLAC).

Whelp. That phono stage is a deal breaker.

How about saying, if this is note good enough for your ears get an Eversolo DMP 6 Gen 2? The WIIM Ultra is around for 350€ in Europe in Autumn of 2025. The Eversolo still around 850€. I gave myself 1000€ budget an spent 500€ on the Sennheiser HDB 630, then 180€ on some Edifier RM5s. That gives me 320€ to spend which means I need to haggle. 🙂

When you scrolled thru the apps menu I didn't see Plex, but I've read that the Wiim does support plex. Do you know if this does or doesn't support the Plex app?

@leightonstead2321 10 months ago

My set up is to run the line outs to my av receiver and I then created a MRM (multi-room music) group in alexa with my firestick....that way I get the lyrics on screen but get the better quality of the wiim ultra playing into my av receiver

@Lukáš-r3s 10 months ago

Marantz M1 vs Wiim best sound ??

@RobMyself 10 months ago

I swear, I got this thing and used it with my dusted off Peachtree NovaPre and 220.

For me, it's more convenient and sounds better than my NAD M10 V2. Maybe it's the extra power from the 220 over the M10.

300 bucks is a no freaking brainer

@navion1946 11 months ago

I’ll just say that I don’t think that little screen is as much about usability as it is about theater. It’s bling and I like it.

@chriseggroll 11 months ago

I just got one of these to try and handle some connection problems that I have. I'll be able to use the earc from my TV to the wiim and then output USB to my bifrost. Optical out of my TV works most of the time, but run into dropouts when using a blu ray player. The streaming options will be awesome as well. I have volumio on a pi but this will be a better experience overall

@boatcrafterscompany 11 months ago

My TV doesn’t have HDMI ARC it only has Optical audio out. Will I lose any functionality using the optical ?

@TB-audiofun 11 months ago

Sorry, but i don't understood if the Tidal and other installed into streamer, or you need to connect your phone for listen? Thank you for great review

@michaelpham2221 11 months ago

So basically, it's like a cut back AVR with a decent DAC?

@djscratchnsniff 11 months ago

Thanks for the review

try to use the subwoofer out! significant improvements on sound quality,wide soundstage and cover your low end .
I have Magnepan LRS+ powered by MF m6 500i, using qbuz on wiim ultra thru usb out to smsl 400ex . affordable bang for buck set up .
sub out is connected to a svs subwoofer
