Can You Ever Actually Finish a Movie Collection?

The Bargain Collector

I have every movie I want… so why can't I stop collecting?

At some point, every physical media collector reaches that moment.

You look at your shelves and realize you own the movies you've always wanted. The collection is full of favorites. The big gaps are gone. There aren't many titles left that you're actively hunting for.

So why are you still buying movies?

In this video, I’m talking about the difference between being done hunting and being finished collecting.

Because those two things aren't necessarily the same.

Maybe you've finally found everything you originally set out to collect… but that doesn't mean the urge to collect disappears. There's always a new 4K upgrade, a new Steelbook, a limited edition, a movie you forgot about, or some ridiculous bargain that suddenly feels impossible to pass up.

And eventually, you have to ask yourself:

Am I collecting movies because I still want them… or because I just enjoy collecting?

That's where things get interesting.

This isn't really a video about telling collectors to stop buying movies. It's about trying to understand why we keep going after we've already gotten what we wanted in the first place.

Because maybe being a collector was never really about reaching the end.

Maybe the hunt is the hobby.

What do you think? Have you ever felt like you've “finished” your collection, only to keep buying anyway?

Let me know in the comments.
