I like that Falling Down shows one man's descent leading to his end, while you see another man rise up and start to live again.

I fully agree. The main difference, in my opinion, is that a collection needs to be intentionally curated. The shelves that hold my collection hold right around 500 Blu-ray/4K cases, and while I could always get more shelves, I've decided to intentionally limit myself to these shelves. If I buy something new, I have to go through the collection with intention and remove an equal amount that I don't enjoy as much.

It's a movie about a guy suffering from crushing depression, not aware he is sick.

Its not only a movie about a guy with a loose screw, but it also shows how society is structured to slowly loosen our screws and how we dont notice till things start falling apart.

The movies don't change, but we do.

Falling down is definitely re watchable. I have seen this movie many times. TV, Streaming and now 4k

I'm quite the opposite, I thought the 4K gave this film new life. I never viewed his character as any type of anti-hero or protagonist; it's just a very dark character study of a disturbed guy finally losing his shit and decides to go out with a bang by getting even with the world for one day. It's definitely a cautionary tale for both the average person and the indifferent society that breeds these types of ticking timebombs. For that alone, the movie succeeds.

In the days of DVDs I was absolutely a hoarder. Realized this and bought little to no Blu-rays. Now in the 4K world I'm finally just a collector buying what I like in particular and nothing else.

I couldn't agree more. I think one aspect is that mini euphoria you get when the movie's delivered, opening it up, adding it to your collection. Then it just sits there.

Collector or hoarder, its nice to see shelves full of blu rays :)

You articulated the difference between the compulsive purchasing of pieces of plastic and curating a collection very well.

Very introspective. Great video, man!

I think a huge motivator for purchasing from the boutique labels are the limited edition factor - there is a FOMO element to some of the collecting. This leads to blind buying a lot films that might not be your favorites just because the price is right at the moment.

Yes... nostalgia influences a lot our choices.

Great talk! A collection is a living thing, and a collector is a buyer but also a seller of items

I agree, it’s a movie about a guy with a screw loose. When I saw Falling Down on its original release I remember liking it, but being disturbed by it. I bought the 4K at a recent Arrow Video sale and was blown away! As you pointed out, after doing some living in between viewings I saw it in a new light. Now, IMO, I see it as a dark comedy and can appreciate on a whole new level. (Fantastic 4K restoration BTW!)

You are right on. I think about this every time I watch one of the videos about physical media, etc. where people have what looks like the damn library of congress of 4k discs. Each one of these movies should be something you have a connection too and really want to own it. Not to mention if it’s criterion or arrow and even kino. But yes there collecting and hoarding.
