For me, the key takeaways when using AI for music and art are:
1) Do not use generative AI to generate "art".
2} Do use AI to generate new instruments, tools, and materials that artists can use to create art.
3) What capitalism, and AI companies, often get wrong is believing that art is a product, when art is really a shared process and experience.

We are glad to see some people understanding this, especially 2.

I'd like to see more of your normal composing videos like you mentioned at the end of this one, just writing some music or scoring a scene.  Longer videos and orchestral preferred, but I'll watch any of it!

If there is ONE thing i expect from AI is libreries for orchestral instruments that manage the articulations. The time spent in my DAW to make a moke up sound good is huge compare to the interest of the composition overall.

Every AI "instrument" I've used reinforced the idea that I'd rather move mostly analog.  I appreciate you demoing something polarizing and keeping an open mind, but I'll pass on AI plugins.

What do you think about the "Composing Assistant" of Cinematic Composing?

Not sure if there really is a need for homegrown instrument builds but, that’s only my personal opinion.
There are already so many plugin instruments and effects out there.
AI CAN help with the creation process with tools like Synfire and the sadly discontinued Orb Composer. (😢)
These tools don’t mimic other artists music but use pure music theory to come up with ideas for you, if you have a bit of writers block.
Then you have AI based plugin effects like EQ’s etc. The quality of the result can vary but, some are really good in helping you with the mixing process.

"It puts the power of artificial intelligence into the hands of instrument developers." Does it though, does it literally put it into their hands? Isn't the actual AI on THEIR servers, in the cloud? All YOU get is a remote control to a system that they can remove or change at any time.

It's an interesting tool. I'll personally never use it because I don't feel a need to. But given this is a web-based audio engine platform for tool creation which doesn't use an LLM (so no data center), isn't generative (thereby not catering to the lazy and those lacking in skill), and actually was made by music makers instead of AI-happy corporations for data collection and profiteering, I hope to see this grow into something that the music community can actually be happy with. It's got A LOT of stigma to stand up against. But if this goes well, and if the folks behind Nova can stay on point and remain focused on helping their fellow music makers without giving in to investor-driven profit chasing and predatory monetary systems, then at the very least there's one tool people can rest easy around even if they, like me, choose never to use it. And if they can support both themselves and their fellow music makers by designing the exact tool/plugin they've always dreamed of having in their workflow and selling it to the wider music market, it's a win-win for everyone. But I'll remain cautiously optimistic for now until we've had a chance to see more of it.

Cool, but many instruments do you need? Do you really need an infinite number to narrow down to one specific thing in your head (if you can even get there)?

Limitations and the creative process go hand in hand.

Nothing like a bit of good old hard work though, eh?

I trust that none of the critics in the comments are replacing real musicians with samplers, typists with word processors or film labs with digital photography.

Sorry to buck the trend - but I am with 'Charles'. I AM very excited about AI in music. Unfortunately it is aimed mostly at the dumbed down 'write me an instant nice song' group. We end up with thousands of very professional , very good sounding, very boring , very generic 'masterpieces'. AI is doing much too much for us. Unfortunately again 'NOVA' does nothing for musicians - its just another possible source of sounds and not an aide to ideas or composing. What is needed is an AI plug in that can suggest motifs, harmonies, etc, and  that can analyse , criticise and make suggestions on our own compositions and that can add wonderful fully controllable vocals to our daw masterpieces. Despite Suno, Treblo etc being very hard to control and absolutely random as to their interest in anything you prompt,  I have, through hard work and multiple repeated attempts been able to 'produce' some pieces which I actually like and am proud of. I write the lyrics so at least dont need to regurgitate the AI slop. It would be so good if AI could be standardised to a list of real executable commands i.e. tempo, singers vocal range, key changes , exact list of instruments etc etc etc which would override the wonderful but vague 'natural speech prompt descriptions' . Sorry Im going on a bit !

I don't understand what these instruments are. If they are vibe coded then surely they would be synths, but the piano must be sampled.
