Would you like to see more Expeditions on Walt Disney Studios? Let me know!

I love that out of all the movies that Disney could have chosen, they straight up trolled Paris by using a movie where the city was utterly destroyed.  And it's not like they heroically sacrifice themselves to save the rest of the planet.  Nope, they're just wiped off the map for the sake of establishing that this is a high-stakes situation and then never mentioned again.

I worked on several attractions during the park's construction, including Armageddon.  To say that Armageddon was built ruggedly is an understatement.  There was a lot of heavy steelwork involved in a lot of the effect systems, with the main audience drop-stage built by a UK company notable for their theme park transportation systems.  The fairly violent environment (vibrations, impacts, fire and moisture) made mounting the effect lighting quite difficult.  It used some of the very first IP rated RGB LED lighting fixtures.  The sudden pressure drop and jets of fog through the stage were actually quite complex systems.  The two main mechanical FX imagineers were Paul (shown) and Mike.  Nice guys.

The Michael Clarke Duncan voice dubbing is HILARIOUS

When we needed him the most. He returned.

Sidenote: I will NEVER understand how it would be easier to train a bunch of oil rig workers to be astronauts rather than train astronauts to use a giant drill.

I'm not gonna lie, you stirred my heart with that speech about taking away "behind the scenes" attractions.

The Walt Disney Company really needs to hire a creative CEO that isn’t afraid of the Board or afraid to spend money on real creativity. The company is going down the toilet with streaks.

Extinct, Rollercoaster, Universal, Disney. Long ago youtube lived in harmony until the Expetar, master of all 4 videos, disappeared. Then one day, he returned and the world was once again at peace.

Oh man, I went to Europe with my family in 2002 and the Studios park was the worst, but this was the best experience there but not because of what it actually did. For the pre-show, we were there with all non English (other than us) and non-French speaking people who weren't paying attention. When we got to the final room, people were looking around and clearly weren't expecting anything much. We knew what to expect thanks to many trips to other shows.

As stuff starts happening, people start absolutely freaking out, while my dad and I stand there just cracking up. When the floor drops the bit followed by the fireball in the center, people are screaming and throwing themselves on the floor. I vividly remember the lights coming up and my dad and I absolutely cracking up, and there being 30 or so people ducked and covered on the ground.

The experience wasn't great compared to so many of these big effect shows (which are my favorite), but I've never had a more memorable response from everyone else to any ride or attraction.

Thanks for reawakening this long dormant memory. Great episode.

On behalf of all the cast members who have had the privilege of operating and bringing " Armageddon : les effets speciaux " to life: thank you infinitely !!!
This magnificent report that you dedicated to it pays the most beautiful tribute to it.
We have thousands of anecdotes and stories about this attraction and the years we spent there; for many of us, it was one of the most fun and enriching experiences of our respective careers and we will never forget it.
Merci beaucoup .
Long live colonnel andropov and Georges Melies ❤ ✨️📽🎬🚀🔥°o°

The satire in this video is 10/10

The way you feel about this attraction is the same way I feel about the Backlot tour with the effects demo with volunteers in the beginning.

I went on the attraction back in 2003. Literally forgot everything about it as soon as we were off. Just remember thinking it was a bit dull.
Great video as always Sam.

I have warmth in my nostalgic heart for “behind-the-scenes” attractions too. I miss the Alfred Hitchcock one sooooo much.
I’ve actually worked on the original set of Psycho, and I still would rather see the behind-the-scenes show instead of the actual set. (Which is extremely haunted btw) 👻

French Michael Clark Duncan is one of the funniest things I've ever seen

"And Ever since the Euro Disneyland Paris, the Walt Disney company has learned to always be extremely careful about where exactly to build a theme park."

Disney announce is their next one in Abu Dhabi

The "Armageddon" Special Effects Show is going to end up with a more loving farewell ceremony than Rivers of America, isn't it?
