The Myotismon arc is peak anime ever, I love it so much.

1:09:50 Oooo I wish the dub was mentioned here cuz like it sometimes it rectifies things in sub and this is one of those moments I feel. Lilymon asks Mimi "Am I still in bad taste" and Mimi actually apologizes saying "No, I'm sorry I said that" cuz Lilymon's still cute but Mimi sincerely apologizes which fits in the scene.

32:20 Maybe this has been mentioned already, but the reason Gomamon is the card they need to open the door is because they use his name as a nod to the popular phrase 'Open Sesame' in Japanese. It's worded as 'Hirake Goma', Or as in this case, Hirake Gomamon. So it becomes 'Open Sesamemon' ^^

The Myotis in Myotismon name is the name of a genus of bat called the mouse ear bat. Make of that what you will

Something I really like in Adventure Tri with Sora is that her hestitance to ask for help acts as a plot point for the 4th film. In Adventure she doesn't want anyone to be concerned with her flaws and cares more about helping her friends. In Tri she spends more direct time trying to comfort Meiko after she looses Meiccomon for the first time (aside from TK), and Biyomon asks Sora why she doesn't ever ask for help for herself. When the digimon loose their memories and Sora isn't able to connect with Biyomon dispite offering her help and friendship (which is setting Biyomon off), Meiko is the first person she directly opens up to about her own problems, and that helps her ask biyomon directly for help instead of offering Biyomon her own help and care. Original Adventure is a journey about how to trust out of love, Movie 4 of Tri is a Journey about opening up to others for help out of self love and honesty to a compaion on when help is needed

Yeah, the Myotismon Arc really is amazing. Cause like 20 years after watching it for the first time, I still remember it vividly.

Like every kids dream of keeping your very own evolving monster while keeping it a secret from your family. Like you have a big secret that's so cool from everyone else.

I thought this day would never come 😮

Hey Digimon plays in 26 episodes. 21 of those episodes are in A row!! 21 episodes of hey digimon back to back

Nah, I think Gatomon is the superior name. When I think of Gatomon her tail is not the part that stands out to me, the tail ring maybe because of season 2 but I would sooner think of her claw gloves before the tail. plus to me Tailmon sounds generic and theoretically could be used to describe a bunch of different digimon. Whereas Gatomon tells you what they are. Gato. I also see the argument for Vamdemon being the better name but to me it'll always be Myotismon because frankly Myotismon sounds like an evil big bad name and for his character in the show I think it works better.

"His sister, Hickory"

I think the biggest thing about this arc, that I only really realized in retrospect, is just how incredibly grown-up some of the material is.

Sora struggles with understanding familial love and mistakes strictness for hatred. The kids realize that "yay friendship" isn't quite enough and sometimes you have to actually go a step further and be there for them, instead of just spit words. When Wizardmon dies...he fucking dies. I still remember in the German dub Kari literally begs him not to die. It's not just "don't go back to the digi-world" or "please don't be hurt"; it's death.

And of course the cherry on top of it all being the two main dudes, constantly clashing heads before, typical boy behavior, but then we see that both of them are scared. They don't think they're cool and untouchable. They don't know if this plan will work out. And they're not afraid to hold hands, encourage each other and face this problem together.

I dunno, that is just something I feel has gotten lost over the years. Especially in kids' shows. Not only were these kids more real, the situations they went through were outlandish, but you could still understand their behavior. It's absolutely fantasy, but they behave just like children would. With all the upsides and pitfalls of childhood. Dumb mistakes can mean nothing, misunderstandings and emotional outbursts can hurt others and we see them learn all of these things as they go.

I'm sure part of it is nostalgia, but I truly believe Digimon is just a classic. Trim the dialogue a bit here and there, adjust some of the animation and you could quite literally broadcast this on the air still and have it impact children in a really positive way.

As an 02 fan, I was happy for the little shoutout at the end. I hope you continue this podcast into the later shows too. Fantastic episode for the best arc

The best arc. Most memorable. Our first taste of how dark Digimon was going to really get. Myotismon was that guy!

Myotismon really did Aura farm hard with that entrance

Matt and TK's dad is the best supporting character

Koushiro's family storyline is just so insanely good it's bizarre it's from a children's isekai anime. There is just so much depth, the writers nailed it. It's the sort of storyline a parent watching with their child can enjoy.

Billiam's editing room lit up in flames with how hard he cooked 32:41

Season 3B really did have "your local neighbourhood and town as a kid" as a setting and it's magical.

In the latin american dub, she's Gatomon. But we inherited most of the american dubbisms, even though we had brave heart and dubbed butterfly.

Gotta say I agree with the English translation team on this one: Tailmon is an awful name and they were right to change it.  The localization was pretty sparing about changing the Digimon names, and the places where they did change something were typically big improvements to the English ear.

There are definitely things to criticize the dub for, but I don’t think the handful of changed names are one of them.
