Not many people know this, but the "DS" in Nintendo DS actually stands for "Digimon Story," so the front cover actually reads "Digimon Digital Monsters Digimon World Digimon Story."

Digimon World DS walked so every other Digimon story game could run progressively faster.

The sound effects and soundtrack of the digimon DS games still live rent free in my head.

I don't know if anyone has told you this, but I love the cylindrical scrolling yellow wireframe background. It's like we're watching your video inside the digital ether you travel between the real vs digital world

Wayneisboss back with a digimon vid on a day that has been rough. I am so happy to have it. This is what I needed today to lift myself back up. Thank you!

I absolutely cannot wait for you to get to Dawn and Dusk

I'm ready on the sidelines for the viewings of Dawn and Dusk next.

I just realized a week ago was the 20th anniversary for Digimon Story, what a coincidence you got to release this retrospective close to that

Now this was a blast of the past... Slapping me in the face with how lackluster this game was, nostalgia really tinted my memories haha

You and BumblesMcfumbles dropping digimon vids in the same week feels like hannukah in the summertime

I’ll be honest, going back from Dawn and Dusk to DS was HARD for me personally. I feel like they were such a massive upgrade in just about every way. I still respect this game for starting the Digimon Story series, but it’s one I never feel like replaying unlike the next few games.

The combat in Dawn and Dusk is a highlight in the series for me. I desperately want it to come back.

I've been really loving this Digimon review series. It is what I actually first found your channel through when I was looking for Digimon World 1 content

It was a rough start, but it slowly evolved into the current Story games, which are some of my favorite RPGs.

I do think this is one of those games where, since you are the character, when you turn off the DS the protagonist also goes out of the digital world. Because, after all, it's still you.

33:19 Using this song in particular is a great touch for this section complaining about the constant encounter interruptions. Genius.

The grind is so crazy

Yay, my show is on!!

Thanks for the video. Have some deep lore. The concept of "species" you mention that plays a key role regarding EXP and Digivolution in this game is related to a bit of old lore called "Fields." They were introduced in some of the early V-Pet toys with themed Digimon in each toy. Digimon first evolved into the forms we know on File Island, which has several distinct environments on it. The idea is that a Digimon's attribute (Data, Virus, and Vaccine) represents how a Digimon adapts to its environment. And its Field is the environment it best adapts to. (Digimon can belong to multiple Fields.)

The Dragon species from this game is the "Dragon's Roar" Field, which adapts well to volcanoes and deserts. The Aquatic species is the "Deep Savers" Field which adapts to glaciers and oceans. This game was my first introduction to them as an idea, though it just uses them to gate Digivolutions and make you grind. It was weird learning about this lore after playing this game when I was younger, but it gave me a good way to think about the Fields whenever they come in other media.

Enjoy the lore. But yeah, the game is definitely a product of its time. It was a great start to the Story series, but it has plenty of bad elements along with the good. I definitely loved it as a kid, but I'm not sure I'd be willing to play it again nowadays.

I loved the og story, but dawn & dusk is where the formula really got me hooked

49:38 Yes. I actually found the easiest thing to do is to just generate six angewomon the second you get the chance, di-digivolve them and then raise them all into Jijimon. Jijimon has a move called Hung on Death which deals 3 hits, each dealing around 1000 damage without any special training required. It's super broken and easy to get at that part of the game aside from the time it would take to gather all the data for the six angewomon. I only had one Jijimon and it was a huge help with the bosses from that point forward.
