Slugs / warwick castle crossover episode!?

My worlds are colliding

Dialectics being dropped 10 minutes in? My kinda podcast

There’s this sort of underlying sexual tension between in this podcast set up between the goblin king and the king of slugs

JLA on tifo soon?!?

The crossover of the year

Watching this after Pep played a 3-5-2 with Gvardiol as a left 10 and Foden in the double pivot. Pep really is one of a kind

The whole 'Jon is boring' bit is my least favourite part of the Tifo podcasts. He talks about football in a way that makes you understand why it's so important to us despite being a game

Brilliant conversation. One common take that I find questionable, though, is this narrative that City's last season showed a decline in how well Pep's tactics work.
I mean, if you look at the starting XI against Liverpool away, for example, City had Nunes at LW, no CDM in a midfield with Rico Lewis and a back four that included Walker who was busy dealing with two marriages and Akanji who was washed.
City simply didn't have players. They bought players in January and they immediately improved. No PL team got more points during the last 12 match days than City. They ended the season strong!
This season they have the second youngest squad in the league with thirteen players in their first full season. There were obviously going to be growing pains. But, again, they are ending the season strong. They are unbeaten in 18 games or something and have won 7 of their last 8 games. They played all the teams PSG played in the UCL Knockouts within a few weeks (Arsenal x2, Liverpool, Chelsea) and won with an aggregate score of 11-1.
Arsenal just won against a dreadful West Ham 1-0, in a game in which both sides accumulated an xG of roughly 1,5.
City just beat a much better Brentford side 3-0, accumulating an xG of 3.

Think about it: Guehi and Semenyo just joined in January, Rodri hardly played in the first half of the season, thirteen new players and they are close to a domestic treble.
City had some catching up to do - from last season - but they sure did catch up quickly. City not keeping the ball in the corner flag at the Emirates and conceding a counter attack in injury time, Guehi's mistake, Cherki's inconsistency/lack of consistent minutes - all these things are down to lack of experience on the players' part and somewhat expected from a new squad. It's not really down to Pep being behind tactically. I doubt City would be close to being this good already without a manager who knows what he's doing.

YES FINALLY THE GREATEST COLLAB EVER

Jon thinking Arteta has gone the wrong direction while pointing out that it might be the right direction is peak academic nerdery and I'm here for it. I also sort of see it as, he's picked up pieces to change after winning the title and the transfer links that persist or have weight to them seem to indicate he knows there's a wind change. Same with how he talks about set pieces and man-marking. He sounds like he's shifting, but he's dug in his heels for this season because it's been working and may vindicate him.

Would love to see Jim on Tifo and be crowned Rondo del Rey

the goblin king,and his goblin.

My goblin's hero and serious football analist

Brilliant interview. I love Jon and it's really great to have someone that intelligent helping people understand the game.

This might be the best Ripple Effect episode I've listened to to date. Genuinely glued to it from start to finish. Incredibly insightful and made me think a bit more about how we look at coaches and performances and the way football is going. Incredible again, the both of you 👏🏾
