Worked as a handler for almost fifteen years, their level of intelligence and capabilities are astounding.

Military K-9 dogs are the US equivalent to a modern day Spartan Warrior. Selected at birth for the sole purpose of being a tool of war. Don't mess with the fur musket.

I was a dog handler 6 years us army, miss it a ton. Craziest story I heard/read was this dog “Kay.” I read his bronze star paperwork that I found while cleaning up a storage room at our kennels. Anyway, Kay was in Iraq in 2008 (don’t quote me I did t take pictures of anything and it’s been nearly 7 years). Anyway, 2 bad guys are in a cave/weapons cache, SF guys say to the k9 handler they are cool to send the dog in and they’ll just clean up. Dog goes in and gun shots go off combined with screaming, one guy stops screaming, followed by another and no shooting. Then dog drags out bad guy number 2 by the neck. Both bad guys KIA…

Kay was a sweet dog, died of old age continued to work to the last day. Fort drum NY… miss those dogs…

Bless all our soldiers. Human and K9.

Those dogs areAmerican Soldiers!🇺🇸

My Wife's PhD dissertation was on the relationship between the soldier and military working dog.  It focused on those in Viet Nam and a lot of her interviews were with VDHA.  Many great stories of amazing soldiers and amazing dogs in combat.
She passed in 2018.

I had a German Shepherd male he was a relatively large dog, I would walk him every day from the house into town & back.  He would quietly walk beside me minding his own business, he would basically ignore every one.  One night we were walking down the main street, it was late night shopping, as we were making our way through passers-by He started quietly growling, I looked at him and could see he was focused on something ahead, so I looked up and saw he was focused on a group of three males, one of which was dressed strangely.  my dog kept quietly growling until they passed.  Great judges of character dogs can be.

Army Veteran. I have a mal. He is a no joke dog. If you won’t put significant time, don’t get one.

Crunching tracheal celery….words that make you smile and shiver

Roomed with a guy who was a Pro Handler.  His dog was a gem.  110lbs of perfectly tuned energy.  We would work him in the back yard using the sleeve. I could not believe how powerful he was.  The neighbor kids would hang over the fence and watch, mesmerized.  he was as gentle as a puppy with them.  I kept up on my German with that dog.  German kept the kids from trying anything stupid because they never figured out exactly what we were saying.

As a single woman living alone, I always had a good dog, I do like a german shepherd/lab cross.  Obedience trained, they were good buddies, friends, and took good care of me.  Nothing like a good dog.   Love dogs.

"Talk shit, get bit." I love it.

Broke his femur with a dog bite???!!! Good lord. I’m a paramedic and I have seen the body go through some horrific accidents and not even break a femur. So for just a dog bite to do it is insane. And I even own a malinois and it still shocked me.

Dogs are amazing. I had a German Shepard, guard dog trained. He was so smart. He waited a burglar to break in before he got him. The guy jimmied the door and the door jamb, opened the door and came in, he didn't get very far. When I got home from work, Zeke was so excited, he brought me to the side door of my house and there was the busted door, commotion and blood and more blood. That person was lucky to get out. I called the cops and apparently this type of entry was used to rob a few houses in the area. I loved that dog so much. I miss him every damn day.

I had a super gentle Sheltie. One day, he bared his teeth at a worker on the lawn maintenance crew. Would not stop. I had to put him on  leash. Two weeks later the biz owner told me the guy had stolen his heavy equipment and took it across State lines. He was an amazing dog. Just instinct.

bad ass Dogs trained by a bad ass operator.

Marine vet. Training my first Mal I just rescued from dodging traffic a month ago. She is a phenomenally smart dog, and fixed to me like my own shadow. Still working on her separation anxiety, but we have gotten to a point I can leave her in the kennel and leave the house for a few hours. I would love to get her some protection dog training, as I think she would love the work. She’s about 7.5 months old.

Dogs can sense intent, no doubt about it. A friend who handled a SAR bloodhound was surprised and probably saved by that dog when they were approached by some drug addled vermin and, totally out of character, this huge, human friendly working dog went berserk and scared the ever loving crap out of the creep. I’ve seen several similar scenarios involving different breeds that just knew what was really going on.
I for one would love to have some of those dog senses if only for a day.

In the late 70s I lived near Homestead Air Force base. It was pretty safe but we started to get some undesirables from  an island country. I had an open jeep and took my 2 large male German Shepherds with me everywhere.  They were big bad and beautiful. Best dogs. I still miss them.
