No short cuts to piano playing... it takes dedicated hard work

I really like this approach. It's basically ear training, not theory. Teachers don't train students ears enough

This is the wonderful breakthrough for me to remember songs AND it shows me the secret how to find the right cords to a melody. That was a thing I always wondered how to do this. Now I understand. And yes I“m almost 70 and started piano with you Jonny 3 years ago. And I learned already so much. Just need more time to practice. Love to be a member and keep on pushing my piano skills hoping to become even better. A ton of fun I already have and my ears become better every day. Thank you ❤

To convert music to numbers is harder for me to do than to tour Europe as a piano vocalist which is what i usdd to do

Johny you are a phenomenal teacher!
This is the correct way to teach music... because the ears hear it first!!!
THANK YOU! God Bless you!

Hey Jonny — just wanted to say a huge thank-you for this lesson. I’ve watched countless videos on this topic, but yours is the first one that really clicked.

Because of you I’ve begun to explore slow blues and jazz improv on the piano — things I’d never felt confident enough to try before. Your teaching style is clear, encouraging, and genuinely inspiring.

Ignore the negativity — your work matters. It’s making a real difference in someone’s musical journey (that someone being me!). Keep it up and thank you for opening this door. 🎹🔥

Jonny has an amazing gift to simplify complicated concepts. It takes years to learn piano but Jonny does an amazing job in making it accessible to a new generation that want instant results without the hard work

I used to pick out the bass lines in everything I listened to, and for 30 some years now, I sing the low bass part in a choir, so this is really connecting some dots for me as a piano beginner.

This is another incisive, helpful lesson showing a path to take and a really uplifting vibe….’somewhere over the rainbow, way up high, there’s a land that I dreamed of once in a lullaby’…

That's really all you need for starting to play nearly every tune.
Very good job you're doing here ❤
Btw composers and arrangers also think this way ( melody + bass ), which I learned in Jazz Theory during my studies at the Grazer Musikhochschule in Austria.

I struggled a lot with this too, the book "foundation of a piano method" by Sebastien Heps really helped me a lot to take all of this with ease !

I learned to play by ear without any methods, just by feel. Thank you for the methods, they are very helpful for getting even better at it in the future! Much love from Germany 💜💙

The bass note  is most important when doing this. Most people cannot sing the bass note 🎵 much let’s hear it in recordings. It definitely takes a well tuned ear and a whole lotta hours of practice.

Johny is the best and this material  here for free is GOLD . Thnak you so much for your work.  I am thinking in signing up just because of all the time he has put on this. Its amazing

Very good video.. he explained it ALL with OUT rushing the lesson!  We just don't do any jazzy stuff..in general he covers Ear Training very well so we can test out our own songs!!  Thanks bro!!  💦🚨🚨💦

Thank you for the lesson! It's also important to say that the bass line is not just a mistical thing you could just hear. It literally hides in melody and it much helps to find the chord.

Thanks for sharing your hard-earned wisdom that has been accumulated over many years. Please don't get put off by the few outliers with negative comments. Looking forward to many more gems of wisdom, thank you for everything!

The simplest ideas are often the best.
This is so simple but effective, but how come I (or most other people) never thought of it?

Thank you so much.

This is how i teach my kids,,, by the numbers.  Note letters are basically only a reference for a key to play in and not very important.  Great lesson. 👍  The first few measures of numbers of a song melody is basically what i use for my cheat sheet for my song playlists.
