Valve making the alyx units diverse instead of just "same soldier different color" is the best design choice I enjoyed when playing Alyx

2:57 I've noticed this detail, too, but I don't believe it's to project a better image for the Combine. A big detail of the Combine forces is that the one currently occupying Earth is a Skeleton Crew, that is to say that the amount of originally Combine creatures on Earth is nearly zero at all times. The reason that they utilize human technology is because it's all they have to work with. The Combine-at-large does not consider Earth as a significant enough planet to devote a large standing army to the security of it.

Fun fact: the transhumans don't count as synths, human synths did apear in development (concept art and 3D model) and they look even more inhuman than OW units, they lack a head and have asymetrical arms.

For the Grunts I think the propane tanks are specifically used for Quarrantine zones for using flamethrowers on Xen infestations, we actually see these grunts for a brief moment without their tanks during the raid on Eli's apartment

I got here because I wanted to see if he did a analysis on illuminates

Just as a FYI the combine grunts only have the tanks in the QZ. We can confirm this because after the prisoner transport crashes we can see the grunt's responding without the tank and filter.

The Combine units have among one of the hardest character designs of any video game faction.

For combine grunts.

You do realize that they are purpose used for quarantine zones since they use oxygen gas canisters and wear that bodysuit. The combine researchers kinda have the same thing but hey

@harisdalac9457 10 months ago

you can see the honeycomb pattern and the fact that the dont have eyes leads me to believe that the grunts have bee eyes

In traditional Christianity, being human (or being "made in God's image") typically includes intelligence, free will, and moral agency. By taking those traits away, as the Combine did, you become something lesser than human; a mere Anthropoid.

I get the feeling this guy might be a bit of a fan of hammers placed on walls

My niche interest has been satiated and well fed with this production, thanks for

I often hear people call combine soldiors mindless, which is something i just dont understand. They act as individuals, can have different personalities and even swear when startled or surprised. Its far more valuable to have an individual capable of utilizing tactical creativity then being a mindless drone

The reason the combine reissue human tech for their forces is that they want to keep humanity weak and not able to reverse engineer combine technology. Also combine propaganda is not that strange even Germany had propaganda in Russia
