The Fumble of Fortnite OG

In December of 2024, Epic Games announced Fortnite OG, a “new” variant of Battle Royale that essentially transports you back in time to replay through all the original seasons of Fortnite Chapter 1.

Throughout its first year, Fortnite OG’s quality has fluctuated massively from being a… pretty thoughtful return to form, to a downright travesty of a mode. And so, that’s where I come in. I’ve held my tongue for a long time, with the hope that Epic would fix the damn mode, but I think it’s about time I discuss the comical fumbling of Fortnite OG.

This is a comprehensive look back at OG's first year; the highs and the low, low, lows. I talk all from the strange updates and endless bugs to community wars and the reaction to criticism. This covers from launch until the end of Season 6. Proofed by AllyJax for maximum accuracy, veracity, and entertainment! I hope you enjoy.

S7: The rise of Fortnite OG

OG Season 7 has been so much fun, they have to bring back expert mode to remove bots and fix the smallest inaccuracies

i'm glad og season 7 was actually a huge step up for the mode

I don't speak English, in fact I watched your video with subtitles, but I still managed to empathize with your feelings as an OG player lol. Thank goodness we live in the timeline where OG 7 came out, haha.

Can't wait for C2S1 OG where they refuse to update the game for 2 months straight

Everyone says Season 1 is so stale and boring but it was really nice to go back that far because now fortnite is so fast paced, there are so many new additions every season which overwhelm many players and quite difficult for new players or those who didn't play for years

OG Season 7 is really fun, I'm loving it so far and it even reached 200k players today. I would still like the OG movement animations and the removal of bots but it's not that big of a deal. Season 7 is really accurate to 2019 and even though I havent won a game in the 10s of 100s I've played already, I still love it. The planes are really fun and I am excited to see how the mode moves forward.

This is very well put together. You may have seen the Layo video, but he also thinks there’s some weight to the theory that this mode is being sabotaged. I find it hard to believe they couldn’t even make a single announcement for OG season 6. If it’s not sabotage, I also think it’s possible they’re using AI of some sort to make the game, because there are errors being made that shouldn’t be possible. I don’t care about a few PNGs being wrong, but it’s not hard to make the mode fun, it already was.

OG Season 7 would be nearly perfect if they didn't timegate half the damn battlepass for a month 😭

As much as I like chapter 2 (which is not a lot) I really hope we get another go with the chapter 1 map but with epic actually bothering to fix the things that matter

There were many inaccuracies which were a little distracting but could be largely ignored in the big picture (outside of things like fog and lighting) but there were so many other things like weapon changes and balance changes that really hurt the early seasons, with the most butchered by far being season 6
Perhaps they could do another OG mini season with proper changes each week this time before getting into chapter 2 again

20:10 Considering Season 6 is my favourite season of all time i felt like everything in the OG re-do was near perfect, i loved it as much as i did back in the day. HOWEVER, Fortnitemares completely dropped the ball, i think it was extremely lame that the main event of the entire season was so non-intrusive and completely avoidable, yeah the lack of fog too was lame but man, we were doing so well until it all went to crap.

While first impressions of Season 7 are pretty good (except for the ridiculous lack of healing items) i really hope they don't repeat the Fortnitemares issues when we innevitably arrive at the Ice Storm event because that'd be really really lame.

honestly, even though OG has it's failues i loved it for its purpose: "Experience Chapter 1"

i'm not gonna lie, i hated it that Giant thread from Allyjax explaining Every single inconcistency of Fortnite OG. Heck, i started hating him because of that, but the time went on and on and on and i'm now chill with his intentions and honestly i feel bad because of that. =/

but i'm happy that when S7 dropped it's numbers Skyrocketed ( from 20 - 30k ) to 100k+ players Every Single Day, and because of that epic started to be more communicative about that too, and i hope OGS8 maintains this Momentum.
