I played this 3000 years ago, Gandalf.

Fun fact, due to it high scalability it was used as one of PC benchmarks for a few years until Far Cry came out.

There's not a day that goes by that I don't miss this universe. I keep daydreaming about an open world game set in Aqua... But like a good one...

EVE Online style Aquanox... Now thats something i would kill to see!

Blazing Ice has that "MAYONNAISE ON AN ESCALATOR, GOIN UPSTAIRS SO SEE YA LATER" kinda vibe

When I was a young german boy, the first game of the francise was "Schleichfahrt" aka "Archimedian Dynasty", which creates the whole world of Aqua, with pre-rendert stills (asthonishing for a DOS Game), sim-style submarine combat (you REALLY NEED A JOYSTICK and it's a blast) :) Aquanox 1 was a little step back from the presentation going to a more arcade style of gameplay and Aquanox 2 tried to get back to the roots. I wish there would be a modern continuation of this underwater cyberpunk setting.

I need to say thanks to one random old guy who gave me a CD of Aquanox when I was a kid!
Salut to the random old guy, thanks to him I spent my childhood by playing Aquanox

I remember a PC gamer magazine with a demo of this and I fell in love with it ever since. I forgot what the title was for many years until I found it on a software download website. between this and uprising live or die, it's all the game I need, ever

I still play AquaNox and AquaNox 2 to this day and they support my 3840x2160. And it looks amazing.

This was one of the first games I ever played on my own PC, I thought the it was so cool. Only years later did I realize it was so niche.

Must give this a try. Darkstar one was another great German made game I enjoyed.

German here,
Schleichfahrt translates to something like "stealth-drive". Its a word for military U-boots driving silent, slowly and avoiding detection.
Maybe could also be translated to something like "stalker-drive".

Because the same word "schleichen" is used for predators stalking theyre Prey.
Which is what U-Boots are doing historicaly in the german Military, stalking other ships, attacking undetected, then disapear again.

Like a tiger attacking its prey, jump in, grab one, run away.

Same term used for that

24:09 The lead computing reticle was actually pioneered over a decade earlier in Freelancer's spiritual ancestor Wing Commander 2.

I have no idea why I got the kick to play this game again 20 years later but I did not expect a video like this to even exist.
Thanks for the memberberries and I can assure you the original German VO is just as nuts as the English dub but 11 year old me did not care back in 2001 ;)

Never understood all that hype those titles generated in media back then, but damn the OST still hits so hard.

Man I remember my dad used to come home with brand new games back then, he would often replace GPU's so we would try everything out there. I remember this game like it was yesterday and I remember how confused I was about the objectives, I was around 3 years old

i absolutly loved this game. god i am getting old

I remember AquaNox...  though my memory of it begins and ends with "Descent, but underwater with a weird tutorial."

Ahh,the music, the story and the dogfights,i love AquaNox.
