20 Minute Promo

For a few months in 2016, the Intercontinental Championship felt like the most important title in WWE.

After years of falling just short, Dolph Ziggler was desperate to prove that his career wasn't defined by missed opportunities. Standing in his way was The Miz, a champion obsessed with earning the respect he believed WWE had never given him.

What began with one word... "coward"... became one of the greatest rivalries of the SmackDown Live era.

From The Miz's legendary Talking Smack promo, to Backlash, No Mercy, Survivor Series, and TLC, this rivalry elevated both men and restored the prestige of the Intercontinental Championship.

This is the story of The Miz vs Dolph Ziggler.

Turns out I was wrong about the No Mercy main event, I’ve spent the last 10 years believing it was only to find out it was actually Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton, this feels like a Mandela Effect 😭😭😭

This was around the time I really started to appreciate The Miz more for everything he’s done in and out of the ring. He’s the guy WWE calls on to rely for an any position, and can make it work. No doubt he’ll be a first ballot Hall of Famer when his time comes

Dolph Ziggler died so Zack Ryder could have the US title

Zack Ryder died so Dolph Ziggler could have the IC title

Perfectly balanced, as all midcards should be

It is inconsolable to me that over the past 10 years we have had multiple part-timer champions and WWE STILL struggled to make midcard titles matter.

The Miz is an intercontinental championship run away from tying his name to Chris Jericho for most title reigns at 9 in WWE History

"Sometimes the things you love dont always love you back" and "Either way, ill be out of my misery."

All these years later and those lines still stings like hell. Those are the words of desperation, of screaming for validation. Wanting 1 chance to prove oneself

Its a shame they still went unheard by the upper brass

I remember all this as it was happening. It’s hard to believe this was all 10 years ago. Wild how the current brand split now has lasted longer than the original.

This feud was the only time I’ve ever been able to sit through an entire miz singles match

@chimeratcg07 2 months ago

They should have main evented that No Mercy PPV imo.

I can't believe it's been a decade since this era of SmackDown Live. That intial string of ppvs on the SmackDown side was special. This feud was so good. I have so many fond memories of this SmackDown. I always prefered the Backlash match but their matches at No Mercy and TLC are still really good.

This was an example of when Titles need to be the center of personal feuds. Right now these HHH Title runs are so inconsequential. They are rarely defended on PPV Meanwhile non title personnel feuds get center stage.

My favorite IC champ, Miz was phenomenal
Nic had one of the best promos ever

@manusr__ 2 weeks ago

That version of The Miz deserved a WWE championship run

Do you have a script for any of these videos?
Your commentary is really good. I was just wondering.

Definitely an underrated rivalry and definitely one of the best moments of wrestlers getting themselves over when management didn't want to see it

@MR_DUALITY 1 month ago

This is why I want to see more of the miz. His character suits him perfectly. You just love to hate him. He could be a very good opponent for the newcomer's first feuds

Ur really underrated ngl. You should have more subs , with your ability to tell stories , I believe you will have much more soon. Wishing you the very best brother.

This was my favorite feud in 2016. It also made me a fan of The Miz.

I was there for the Dolph vs. Miz title vs. Career match. It was electric! Though it actually didn't main event for some reason they had Orton vs. Bray Wyatt as the main event because Luke Harper returned. It was still an amazing show though!

Thank you, 20 Minute Promo, for taking my suggestion and putting it in your very next video!!!!
Also other suggestions is Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz and/or Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy and Aj Styles vs Samoa Joe. (Sorry if this is being pushy or anything like that)
Love all the videos and content btw it always makes my day
