New x86-64 arch: one of the issues with backwards compatibility for AMD64 is that you can't boot into "long mode" (the 64 bit runtime mode) - all x86-64 CPUs start by booting into the pre-386 16-bit "real mode" (just in case you wanted to run an old DOS) then get switched into 32 bit "protected mode" that can run 32-bit operating systems, before finally switching to long mode. In current UEFI motherboards, this process is done by the firmware and the boot loader is a 64 bit program (and if you want to run a 32 bit os, it runs in the hybrid 32-bit sub-mode).

Removing all the non AMD64 modes may be beneficial, but the amount of silicon it saves, is probably negligible.

I've never worked with the now to be deprecated OMAP 24xx boards, but I DID have worked with their two successor series board, the old TI OMAP 34xx & 44xx boards! The later ones are still commonly used for industrial, experimental & educational workd in & around computer sceience & automation, so as long as they keep the OMAP 34xx & 44xx series I'm fine with removing the 24xx one.

Glad someone is thinking about X11, Epic electronic health record uses Citrix , in the system i work in. And lately doesn’t run as well because of Citrixlinux version still uses X11

Cool seeing the ReactOS guys are still progresssing. Honestly after trying linux, I really want things like ReactOS to get more popular, because it really feels like a project closer to what I actually need, especially with the software I use.

I'm really interrested in mold and wild seemingly converging on a common vision (written in rust and supporting incremental linking) I'd be awesome if they could collaborate and benefit from each other somehow (e.g. through the development of shared libraries)

I switched to Void a few months ago and like it. If they start allowing LLM slop I am moving on. If they keep saying no to AI I may actually start contributing

removing the OG 8086 mode portion of x86 CPUs is probably not as relevant as some might think. Yes - in theory - you do carry around a certain legacy feature but its literally only affecting you for like a handful of milliseconds when you boot your mainboard and your CPU essentially slowly "upgrades" toward modernity. The bottleneck in x86 CPUs is usually cache size, memory management, prediction hardware and instruction decoding. Real x86 mode doesnt affect anything to my knowledge.
