This incredible project follows Murat Tuncer as he transforms an empty *VW Crafter cargo van* into a carefully crafted mobile home. What begins as a bare metal interior gradually becomes a comfortable and practical campervan through a combination of woodworking, electrical work, plumbing, insulation, and thoughtful space planning.
Murat starts by preparing the van for its new purpose, cutting openings for windows and constructing sturdy wooden frames around them. He adds roof ventilation, solar panels, insulation, and electrical wiring to create a foundation for comfortable living on the road. The floor receives insulation, plywood, and parquet flooring, while the entrance gets a durable step. Even the awkward wheel arches are converted into neatly finished wooden structures.
The interior then develops into a genuine living space. Murat builds custom furniture specifically for the Crafter, including kitchen cabinets, a compact bathroom, and a bed frame with storage drawers underneath. Every piece is carefully measured and fitted to maximize the limited space. He then sands the wooden components, fills imperfections, and applies a white base coat followed by a warm bone-colored finish, giving the interior a clean and modern appearance.
Murat also installs water pumps and plumbing for the kitchen and bathroom before reassembling the finished furniture. Wooden shower floor panels, the bed, mattress, and final cleaning complete the interior.
For the finishing stages, tongue-and-groove wooden panels are fitted across the ceiling and walls, while tougher wooden boards are used along the lower walls. Murat constructs a wooden floor framework, fills gaps and imperfections with wood filler, and uses fine-grit sanding equipment to achieve smooth surfaces ready for finishing. Beneath the vehicle, a grey-water tank is installed to collect wastewater from the sink and shower.
The result is far more than an ordinary cargo van. Through careful measurements, skilled carpentry, clever use of space, and remarkable attention to detail, Murat turns the Crafter into a handcrafted home on wheels. Every panel, cabinet, pipe, wire, and finishing touch contributes to a campervan designed for comfort, practicality, and adventure on the open road.
